This was my introduction to the wonderful books by "Miss Read," all of which are lovely and charming. They've been compared to the Mitford books but I think they are far better. The reader comes quickly to know -- and like -- the characters in and around the small country communities of Fairacre and Thrush Green in rural England.
thoroughly enjoyed reading 3 of her books. All the I read village characters and happenings are funny and poignant. The 3 books included in my copy included: Village School, Village Diary, and Storm in the Village.
