After doing genealogy research for 40+ years, I know scholarship when I read it. This is an incredibly well-researched dictionary of the first 500+ (mostly English) colonists to strike the US shore. I am absolutely in awe of Martha McCartney and the job she did in this book. Anyone doing research on Virginia ancestors (especially during the years 1607 and 1635) should take a look at this fine volume. I
