Are you kidding?! Rush out, get all of her books, start with Outlander! They are fabulous, lush, sweeping, time travel/romance/history/multigenerational/war sagas...with a little polygamy thrown in for flavor! If you read them and love them (which you WILL), ALSO TRY Jean Auel's The Clan of the Cave Bear series (totally unrelated topic, but same "grand feel"), or the Far Pavillions (2 books) ...I don't remember the author's name off the top of my head, but there's that same sweeping sense of being caught up in a truly big story. They are older books but really excellent as well!

My absolute, most favorite series in the world ever! She writes such beautiful, haunting books that have adventure, romance, intrigue, travel, history...you name it, it's in it! She makes me laugh, cry and hope that all of her books won't ever end.

I cannot tell you how many times over the years that I have found myself wondering about Claire and Jamie as if they were personal friends of mine instead of characters in a book.

This book has a very high rating, so please don't throw eggs when I say that this was my least favorite of the three books so far. It was interesting to read about what happened to Jamie and Claire in the 20+ years they were apart, and what happened when they found each other again. But I'm starting to tire of there being some major catastrophe around every corner. There were some interesting revelations about them and lots of intrigue, but I'm done with the series for a while.

...1059 pages later !!!!! Wow. Daunting, when you have this thick book in your hands and you are just at page one, but before long you are hoping the saga never ends. After a two-year sabbatical from the lives/adventures of Claire and James Fraser, Gabaldon's word wizardry pulled me right back into their world. It's another nonstop ride: one breathtaking adventure after another - some improbable but completely absorbing nevertheless. Vivid characters - earthy sex - smokey images, swashbuckling high-seas adventures - this book has it all. For Outlander fans, a must-read

If you haven't yet begun to read Diana Gabaldon's marvelous series, I recommend you start as soon as possible. This is book 3, and I believe there are a total of seven books now, each one outstanding. She is able to make history come alive in a way I've never read before. Her characters are deeply individualized so that you feel you know and care about them, and the historical accuracy of her stories is amazing. It's best to read them in order; although each book stands alone the characters carry through all of them and the story grows around and with them. I highly recommend the whole series.

I won't rant and rave. I simply love this series of books. I could read them over and over and again. I love the characters I love the plot and the historical accuracy. I love the fact that it's never dry or boring. I love the urge to slip a bookmark in and go ahead three pages as I can hardly bear the suspence!

Read the series it it just wonderfully written and such a joy to read on every level.

this is a great series, of which this is book 3? the series recounts the adventures of a woman who is transported thru time via a stone circle from the 1940's to the 1700's. from being nearly burnt as a witch, to dining with the king of france. the series is expansive and very well written, the characters are very colorful and vibrant. i eagerly await the next installments. a great story.

One of my favorites of Gabaldon's Outlander series. This third book in the series tells the tale of Claire's journey back in time after discovering that Jamie didn't die at the battle of Culloden.

Claire Randall once again makes the perilous trip across time, this time to find the man she had thought lost at Culloden. It's the third volume of an epic romance, and Faithful Reader can be forgiven if the adventures and perils of the star-crossed pair are beginning to wear a bit. Gabaldon also loses points here for piling on enough coincidences the make Charles Dickens blush. Only the underlying passion of the main characters pulls this one through.

This is the third Diana Gabaldon book chronicling the love story of Claire and Jamie. Outlander is the first book and they really should be read in order to get the full effect of the saga! But they can be read on their own and this is my favorite of all the books. It details their flight from Scotland to the New World. Let me say also, that my boyfriend has also read the books and thoroughly enjoyed them. This is not just for women. I think the swash-buckling "Pirates of the Caribbean" setting for this book made it a favorite of my boyfriend as well as myself!

Time flies. Love remains. FOREVER. Third in the series. Believing Jamie Fraser to have perished in the battle of Culloden, Claire Randall returned to her own time to bear Jamie's child. However, when she discovers that Jamie is alive, Claire must chose between returning to him or remaining with their daughter in her own era. What will she do, and if she does return to Jamie and Scotland, will their passion still burn?

I really like this series and tend to read them very quickly. I liked this one, but it felt like the third book in the series, which it is! I feel that there is something about the third book in a series that ties up some lose ends, but isn't as captivating as the previous or future are or will be.

This book is the third in the Outlander series. I liked it best out of the three so far. Claire heads back in time to find Jamie after being separated for 20 years. Their travels take them out into the ocean quite a bit (hence the name Voyager). Lots of returning charaters in this one, and more storyline is dedicated to Lord John Grey (one of my favorite characters). The only problem I had with this book was a bit of dues ex machina. Characters seemed to pop up at the most unlikeliest of times to solve some crisis for Claire. Overall, an excellent read and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!

Okay, we are back in the saddle with Book 3 of the Outlander series, Voyager. After the second book (Dragonfly in Amber) I wasn't sure I cared about reading the rest but Voyager is excellent, every bit as good as Outlander was with even more adventure. Claire's impulsiveness gets her in more situations where Jaime is having to go through hell and back to get her and the tables just keep turning.

If you read #1 and loved it, force yourself through #2 (it gets better halfway through) and you'll love this one.

This is the third book in Gabaldon's series about Claire, a time traveler, and her 18th century husband, Jamie. Much of the action takes place in present day, slowing the usual swiftness down. Once back in the Scotland of the past, the pace picks up and the adventures of these two lovers continue. Interesting action, especially where they end up!

This is the 3rd book of the series. I am already invested in the characters. The books are long and detailed. It really depends on one's mood. If you are looking for a fast paced thrill ride, this is not for you. If you are looking to immerse yourself in another world with lots of historical ambience and sort of go on a long journey, this is great. I have stuck with it for pure enjoyment, but there have been some slow spots and aggravation at denying obvious curiosities and inquiries that were human nature to come forth.I enjoyed the cultural and language integration. I absolutely can't imagine how they could wake up and clear their bowels without a toilet or drag their skirts through a street that doubled as a sewer. And why didn't Claire make more advantage of her future knowledge. So far she has saved Jamie with penicillin, but that's the extent, at least so far.

Although quite long, this was as good as the first two in the Outlander series. I've fallen in love with Jamie and Claire; and following their lives is like watching a movie. I have problems remembering characters from earlier books (lack of time to constantly read!) that get brought back in this story but you can quickly catch up. There are many twists and turns that keep you guessing what will happen next-never boring. No wonder the waiting list for this series is so long!

Book three in the continuing drama of Jamie and Claire. How much danger can one couple get in and out of? I guess the fact that Jamie is God's gift to womankind helps a lot. Full of adventure, romance (sex) and some history, a long but quick moving book.

Book 3 in the Outlander series (a most excellent series!)

Jamie miraculously escaped death at Culloden, which Claire and Brianna discover in their 1968 research. Claire returns to Jamie's side, and more adventures ensue as their love deepens. Many surprises that I'm unwilling to expose for fear of ruining the suspence lead to Jamie & Claire landing in The New World.
DieHard avatar reviewed Voyager (Outlander, Bk 3) on
Jerry Seinfeld created a show about nothing and Diana Gabaldon wrote a book about nothing. I enjoyed the first two books in the Outlander series but "Voyager" falls far short of the others. The first half of the book read like a cheap Harlequinn romance and the last half was a convoluted mess. If there is a plot in this book, I failed to discover it. A 1,000 page waste of time.

This sage just gets better and better. VOYAGER is book three in a series. It follows DRAGONFLY IN AMBER. This is an historical novel with an adult love story that spans several generations. Set in eighteenth century Scotland. Very well researched. Lots of historical detail and supernatural powers. An intelligent, superb book. The entire series is masterfully woven together with flashbacks and crosses time periods without ever loosing the reader. Very well done and an amazing read! This book is followed by DRUMS OF AUTUMN, the final book in the series (that I am aware of).

You cannot beat Diana Gabaldon for historical fiction! Incredibly well-researched series with the minutest details added to make you feel like you are right there with them. She's right up there with James Michener. I really mean that. She adds such rich details. You will fall in love with Jamie and Claire and how they grow older and complement each other and are still so in love, and you will NOT want this series to end...ever! This is the only series I've EVER bought the hardcopy book pre-sale. Every single one. Can't wait for a number of years to go by so I can read them again start to finish. If you can't afford to buy them be sure to check your local thrift stores--I am flat out amazed to see the hard copies in there quite often. BUT READ THEM IN ORDER.
