Helpful Score: 2
The authors provide insight into Vulcan/Romulan history and culture, as well as post-Dominion War Starfleet. However, the multiple flashbacks and time shifts without warning, as well as obscure references to characters and events that took place in "Vulcans Forge" and "Vulcan's Heart" may make this a difficult read for someone who is not intimately familiar with the Dominion War era of Star Trek, such as myself.

Enjoyable read if you are a Star Trek TOS fan, or a fan of Vulcans in general. However, the cliff hanger at the end might just annoy you if you don't already have the sequel ready to go. It did ME!

Extremely disappointing tale that commits the cardinal sin of ending with a cliffhanger. Apparently part of a trilogy, the opener attempts to combine the tale of the Surakian-era split between Vulcans and those who left the planet and ultimately became known as Romulans, with a post-DS9 tale of a new menace threatening the survivors of the Dominion War. Disjointed and slow-paced.
