This is a quick, easy read. It's a very sweet story about friendship and love - didn't make me cry, but I enjoyed it. I won't compare it to the movie since I found that the book and the movie really didn't seem to be very similar at all (in my opinion).

This was an absolutely captivating story. Sparks makes you look through the eyes of a 17 year old and makes you realize why you love your spouse so much! I know this is what it did for me. I fell more in love with my husband just knowing the amount of love a heart can feel. Ended a little different than I wanted, though.

"First you will smile, and then you will cry -- don't say you haven't been warned." says the main character, Landon Clark. I found this a sweet lovely book; I read it in one sitting because as chapters ended I was just drawn into the next one. Writing was sooth and the story flowed nicely. By the ending I wanted wanted it to end as it did; in real life I am not sure the ending was right.

This is a sweet tale of young but everlasting love.. Nicholas Sparks knows how to tug at a reader's heartstrings. Set in Beaufort, North Carolina, the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs in April. This is the setting for a romance between a shy, almost ethereal girl of the town's Baptist minister and a young man in high school. This story has a tremendous depth that is in all of Nicholas Spark's books.

In 1958 Landon Carter is a shallow but well-meaning teenager who spends most of his time hanging out with his friends and trying hard to ignore the impending responsibilities of adulthood. Then Landon gets roped into acting the lead in the Christmas play opposite the most renowned goody two-shoes in town: Jamie Sullivan. Against his best intentions and the taunts of his buddies, Landon finds himself falling for Jamie and learning some central lessons in life.

Like John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Sparks maintains a delicate and rarely seen balance of humor and sentiment. While the plot may not be the most original, this boy-makes-good tearjerker will certainly reel in the fans. Look for a movie starring beautiful people or, better yet, snuggle under the covers with your tissues nearby and let your inner sap run wild.

There was a time when the world was sweeter when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats...

Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he though he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart--- and the joy and pain of living.

From the internationally bestselling author, Nicholas Sparks comes his most moving story yet.

Straight up romance / coming-of-age story about first love and loss. Could easily be classified as YA.

Sparks telegraphs the conclusion pretty early on, and it can't come as much of a surprise to any reader when the Big Challenge looms between the young sweethearts. There's a nice fillip at the end which is left satisfyingly vague -- each reader will have to decide exactly what is being said.

Landon Carter is now 57 years old and he is telling his love story from when he was a senior in high school. He still remembers the events of something that he thought was just a friendship as if it was yesterday.

Jamie Sullivan was a minister's daughter, who wore boring brown sweaters every day, always tied her hair up in a bun, and always had her Bible with her. She is the girl that you would think of when you would imagine the person who gets made fun of in high school. She had never been on a date in her life, and Landon was one of the more popular boys in his high school.

Landon didn't have a date for homecoming, so he decided that he would ask Jamie because she was too sweet to say no and wouldn't have a date yet. When he asked, she said "promise me that you won't fall in love with me."

After a horrible night at homecoming, Jamie asked Landon to play the male lead in an upcoming Christmas play that was performed every year, and was a very big deal in the town. Landon didn't really want to, but Jamie talked him into it because she was playing the lead female and her father had written the play -- and Jamie wanted the play to be very special. After about two months of constant rehearsals, the play was performed and the town knew that this had been the best year ever. And Landon had to admit that it went well, and that he was falling in love with dorky Jamie. But there is a secret that Jamie was hiding from Landon. What could it possibly be? And why did she tell Landon not to fall in love with her?

This is another powerful love story from an author that makes you believe in love. Read this amazing novel to find out the secrets of Landon and Jamie.

This is one story that I can honestly say was a better movie than it was a book. I think the movie showed the emotions, the revelations and evolution of the relationship as well as the enduring love better or at least as well as the book. The book was a quick read and I read it after watching the movie, which is one of my favorites. I was very disappointed that the book did not develop characters and the relationship in more depth. That being said, I still respect the heart of the story and agree that it is an inspiring tear-jerker that shows us the inside of a young boy's heart and of true love.

Unexpected in a very good way, but also sad or bittersweet
About the author: Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors: one can count on him to deliver a great story along the lines of a Hallmark movie, consistently good, enjoyable and fun. The only drawback to his books is that they are very much along the lines of boy meets girl, girl doesn't like boy, and boy overcomes girl's concerns. So read his books with time between them, and they won't run together.

Do you need to read in order? Each book (so far) stands on its own so you can read them in any order

Triggers: bullying of school kids, cancer, illness, major character death

A fantastic story about a couple of high school kids, who didn't like each other very much at the beginning and their very unlikely love in a small North Carolina town back in 1958. If it doesn't make your eyes water at least just a little bit, you have no emotions.

One of the best books I have ever read, I think all teenagers should read this book. Learn what true love really is.

The writing was just so slow I could not even get past the first chapter. Started to read The Lovely Bones instead and never looked back.

Yet another great feel-good book by Nicholas Sparks. This has some similarities to the movie and is very well written. It makes you truly admire the love that this young couple feels for each other.

Clearly a winner. While it has some things in common with the movie, don't expect to read what you saw. Some things are different; mainly the setting.

There was a time when the world was sweeter...when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats...
Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister...Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living.

I am the only one who believes the bride lives at the end and does not die. The husband say's at the end he believes in Miracles. Nicky Sparkes is like that. Don't let Hollywood change the ending. I really do think she lives and does not die.
