Good book but a bit difficult to follow as the voice changes frequently. Reza and Mahastee have known eachother since childhood as Reza's father managed Mahastee's family estate. They were separated by circumstance for years after they shared a kiss at the age of 16, they are known thrown back together as each has a friend taken by Iran's SAVAK, the secret police, and work to find information.

Interesting portrait of human relationships and pre-revolution Iran.

I just finished reading a travel memoir and the descriptions of the time spent in the Middle East was so vivid in my imagination. Using vivid adjectives made it very easy to feel the heat, smell the fragrances of spicy food, the bantering of the rug shop owners. There could have been more of this sensual awakening in this book as much of the same description is included and it's why I rated the book 3, not 4 stars.
