This novel took several jumps that left me confused. There were several major changes in the heroine's life and they happened so abruptly, I never quite figured out why or how the changes occurred. This is also not for fans of happily ever after. These are complicated people with messed up relationships. I was also turned off by the herione's multiple rapes. Some people prefer this genre, but it leaves me cold and wondering how these people fall in love.

The book was a fabulous rendition of what real life love is all about. I find that Rosemary Rogers is absolutely correct in her portrayal of young and passionate love. I felt as though I was really able to connect with the character Blaze on a deep and fervent level

ROSEMARY ROGERS HAS DONE IT AGAIN. THIS BOOK REMINDS ME OF THE STORY OF STEVE AND JENNY THAT WAS ONE OF THE SETS SHE HAD WRITTEN. THIS BOOK HAS BETRAYAL BY PEOPLE YOU LOVE, AND PEOPLE THAT YOU TRUST. IN THIS BOOK I ALSO LEARNED SOME THINGS ABOUT BONDAGE OF DIFFERENT SORTS. EITHER TO LOVE OR TO HATE. IT IS THE READERS JOB TO FIGURE OUT WHICH IT TRULY IS.

The things men did to her destroyed her innocence. The things she would do for the man she loved destroyed all her young notions of propriety. Trista Wiliams was drawn to Blaze Davenant with a passion that shamed her, with a yearning that left her powerless to hate him for spoiling her virtue.
From her Boston finishing school to the gracious twilight of the pre war South, from the golden land of California to the blood-soaked nightmare of the Civil War, Trista would be made to suffer the worst that men could do to her. Even the stepbrother she had worshipped since childhood was driven to forcefully possess her, and hurt her.But never would she let them take her dreams. Or ruin the raging, sweet love that comes but once in a woman's life.
