"War and Remembrance" is the sequel to "The Winds of War". A slow, long read but well worth it.

Prior to reading "Winds of War", I tended to avoided reading Herman Wouk's epics due to their lengths. What a mistake! "War and Remembrance" is a very well-written story that puts a personal face on World War II...Even though "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance" is one coherent story covering over 2000 pages, it never bogs down. It spans events from the lead-up to the end of the war and follows the main characters all over the world. Wouk does a great job of writing from various perspectives. Best read in conjunction with "Winds of War"

1382 pages that are the 2nd part to Herman Wouk's "The Winds of War." Great book for a trip or an adventure into the WWII era.

Herman Wouk is a great writer. With War and Remembrance and its predecessor, The Winds of War, He sealed his reputation as a great writer of historical fiction. Unlike such writers as Leon Uris, who tends to create heroic larger than life heroes and James Michener, who skimps on characterization altogether, Wouk creates brilliantly real figures who seem to live, breath and sometimes die. Whereas the Winds of War covers the period from just prior to the German invasion of Poland in Sept. 1939 through Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, War and Remembrance covers the period from after Pearl through the surrender of Japan in August 1945. As with the previous book, Wouk blends his fictional characters with real figures such as Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin and Hitler.

A family struggles through the trials and tribulations of WWII. Some are in the military and some are trapped in Nazi Europe. A great, epic novel that concludes the story begun in The Winds of War.

If you haven't read his "Winds of War" your education is incomplete. If you have, you must read this logical follow-on. By the way, the title given here- "War Remembrance" is totally misleading. The real title is "War and Remembrance."

The author wrote his own summary on the dust jacket (shows how old this book is!). What struck me about it was that he was talking about WW II--and it so erily could have been written today.
