This book surprised me with its depth and with the full development of the characters. It was compelling in its ability to delve into the emotions of the characters. Equally compelling was how their personalities and character were formed as a result of the circumstances of their lives. Excellent read.
Excellent! Lots going on here (Ada with her clubfoot, the target of a viciously abusive mother, Ada and brother Jamie evacuated to the countryside during the advent of WW2 in Britain, and the adjustment to a new caretaker in a country village.) Ada's plight broke my heart. Highly recommended. 5 stars!
