Mara finds out early on that she is not wanted and only sometimes tolerated. Then she discovers that she must keep her appointments to keep her loved ones alive. But then all that changes and Mara finds herself in a strange new home and with very little information about why she is there. Still scared and not trusting anyone, Mara follows the advice of her new friend: watch the tree limbs. With the help of the trees, a few special friends and Denim (the voice on the radio), Mara is able to find out about her history and discover a whole new future.

This is a book about secrets & the little girl who asks & seeks until she finally finds the answers to all the secrets. When she finds the truth about herself, then she is finally able to tell others about her own terrible secret. As scripture says, "...the truth will set you free." This story is a good illustration of the truth of that scripture.
