A first hand account of a paratrooper's experience through WW II in Europe. After reading many historian's perspectives it helps to hear the story from a soilder's point of view.

There are so many WW II paratrooper memoirs available that is seems repetitive to announce another one as 'outstanding,' but, in fact, this one is.

One story from the book still stays with me. Once, during a brief time behind the lines, two lieutenants had a pet rabbit. Another lieutenant asked if he could butcher it and prepare it for their supper. They declined. Later, they killed a cat, butchered it and gave it to the lieutenant who wanted to butcher the rabbit. They told him it was the rabbit. He cooked it and said it was the best rabbit he ever tasted. I sometimes wonder why, with all the cats running loose, we don't eat more 'rabbit.'
