Classic Steinbeck on a little jaunt with a cast of characters showing their underlying emotions brought to the surface. I am a fan of all his work and this was delightful and full of surprises.

I've read several of Steinbeck's major works and wanted to delve into his minor ones. I started with this one and will continue to pursue them. I enjoyed this (maybe not as much as Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden) as it was a short easy read and the characters were typical of Steinbeck. Don't be sucked in by the sub description of 'passion and crisis. That's very mild by today's standards and not until towards the end.
