This is truly one of Mary Higgins Clark's best mystery novels, that centers around Elizabeth Lange, in desperate search for some inner peace after her sister's murder. Her sister, Leila, became a model after she and Elizabeth left their abusive parents home at a young age. Leila soon became a movie star and married the wealthy Ted. However, one day after an argument with her husband, she is found dead. The police at first label her death as a suicide, but soon her husband is their number one suspect. Weeks before Elizabeth has to go to trial to testify against Ted, she is invited by a dear, old friend to an exclusive spa where the rich and famous go to find relaxation and seclusion from the public eye. There, she finds that close friends of Leila are also at the spa. She soon has her doubts about Ted being the murderer. During her stay at the spa, other people's lives are in danger, including hers. Who really killed Leila and why? Was it really Ted, as she first suspected, or was it someone else who was close to Leila? Read and find out.

This is a quick synopsis: "Elizabeth Lange has arrived at Cypress Point Spa in Pebble Beach, California, weary of heart and soul. Still grieving for her beloved sister, a famous actress who plunged to her death from her Manhattan penthouse, Elizabeth is determined to unearth the truth about how Leila died. Dashing multimillionaire Ted Winters stands accused of her murder, but Elizabeth has doubts.

Along the windswept cliffs of the Monterey coast, in luxurious bungalows, between gourmet meals and beachfront walks, uneasiness stalks Elizabeth while she begins opening doors to the past. As glimpses of the dark truth about Leila's life and death -- and about Elizabeth herself -- start to crash against her mind, an ominous wave from an unexpected source threatens to engulf her entirely."

My wife relates to me, its a very good story & the book is fine but has a hidden tea stain on 7 pages near the end of the story. Still very readable but not pristine condition.

I enjoyed this story even though I knew who the murderer was from page 48. MHC attempted to make all the main people seem guilty at different times but I always went back to the same person. The whole time I hoped I´d be wrong but no. It was still an interesting story and I´m glad I finally read it.

Leila, a famous actress is found dead after she had begun to unravel and had been drinking heavily. Everyone knew something was wrong and her last performance in a play was very bad. Many people believed she could have committed suicide by intentionally falling off the balcony of her apartment until a witness claimed to have seen her fiance push her. Her sister, Elizabeth was shocked and didn´t want to believe it but she heard him yelling at her sister over the phone just before she died. The witness said she saw him push her over 1 minute after her sister hung up the call. One week before the trial was to begin Elizabeth got an invitation to the spa owned by their friend. She didn´t want to go but decided to go so she could talk to her sister´s secretary who had something important to tell her. After her sister died her secretary went to work at the spa and she thought she knew why Leila was so upset just before she died. Shortly after she arrived at the spa Elizabeth realized it was a mistake to go and she better watch her back.

Labeled with book crossing information. In no way in perfect condition, so PLEASE only ask for this book if you want to read it and pass it along to someone else. If you want a really good copy to keep, this may not be the copy for you. It's kind of old. All in one piece, no pages falling out or anything, but kind of, well, not "NEW" looking.

A mystery, of course, one of her more popular ones.
