I would like to dedicate this to:
monstermashed (Janelle B.)
who PM'd me when I first came up with the idea, in a post.
She liked the concept.
It was her enthusiasm for the idea that led me to complete the thing.
Do certain songs remind you of pbs and some of the Discussion Forums? For me, it is the Eagles song, The Hotel California: "On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of Colitas, rising up through the air." (Those 2 lines remind me of the California pbs members, who are awake when I should be asleep). "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light." (My computer screen, when it is the only light shining in my dark office). "My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night." (I am tired. My computer screen beckons to me - stop here for the night). "There she stood in the doorway." (I am feminizing my computer). "I heard the mission bell." (Logging on). "And I was thinking to myself, This could be Heaven or this could be Hell." (What I first think, when I open up a post). "Then she lit up a candle, and she showed me the way." (Someone has contributed a persuasive and well-written post). "There were voices down the corridor," (The voices belong to all the posters). "I thought I heard them say, "Welcome to the Hotel California."" (People are saying, "Welcome to pbs"). "Such a lovely place. (Such a lovely place.) Such a lovely face." (That is a nice avatar). "There's plenty of room at the Hotel California. Any time of year (any time of year)." (There IS plenty of of room at pbs, any time of year). "You can find it here." (You CAN find books here). "Her mind is Tiffany-twisted," (She has lots of books about Tiffany glass). She's got the Mercedes-Benz." (If only I had the credits). "She's got a lot of pretty, pretty boys," (This person has a pretty bookshelf). "That she calls friends." (This person says books are her friends). "How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat". (I am playing with the Book Browser). "Some dance to remember, some dance to forget." (Some people read to remember, some people read to forget). "So I called up the Captain," (The Captain is Richard). "Please bring me my wine." (I have thought of a book I would like to order, and typed in the title). "He said, "We haven't had that spirit here Since ninteen sixty-nine."" (I am remembering a book from way back, it is not available). I log off. I go to bed. "((And still those voices are calling from far away,))" (My computer is calling me back). "Wake you up in the middle of the night," (I am back at the computer). "Just to hear them say. Welcome to the Hotel California. Such a lovely place. (Such a lovely place.) Such a lovely face." (pbs says Welcome Back). "They're livin' up at the Hotel California. (The Discussion Forums are very active). "What a nice suprise, (what a nice suprise)." (Someone has responded to one of my posts!). "Bring your alibis." (What I will have to tell DH in the morning when I can't wake up to take the kid to school). "Mirrors on the ceiling, (Some sort of reflection from the computer screen). Pink champagne on ice." (Pink champagne on ice is found on (Lodovico) Richard P.'s Whatcha Drinking thread, on CMT). "And she said, "We are all just Prisoners here, of our own device."" (I could kick this addiction, if I wanted to). "And in their master's chambers They gathered for the feast. They stab it with their steely knives," (Everyone is ganging up on some poster). "But they just can't kill the beast." (The poster keeps replying). "Last thing I remember, I was running for the door." (I am leaving my computer room now). "I had to find the passage back, To the place I was before." (I need to find my pre-pbs-addicted life). "Relax," said the night man, "We are programmed to receive." (I DID get a book in the mail today). "You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!" |
