An enjoyable story that is similar to Josephine Tey's "The Daughter In Time" in that it involves a policeman confined to a hospital bed who becomes interested in looking into a very cold case (this one around 100 years old, while Tey's is a little colder.)
I really enjoyed this book -- it popped up as an "other people got this" when I looked at another book. It is amazing that he would even try to solve a mystery that was so old, but cool that he could find so much information! Definitely recommend.
I love Inspector Morse, both in Colin Dexter's books and in the TV series starring John Thaw, who died not so long ago, sadly. This particular book is my very favorite of Dexter's Morse mysteries. Morse is in the hospital and to pass time he reads a little book about a murder on a canal that happened in 1859. Only Morse, from his hospital bed, could solve a murder that happened nearly 150 years ago, when all the players in it were dead. An excellent book. I recommend this one and all 12 others in the series.
