Jo Quincy will do what it takes to keep her family safe, healthy and together. Even if it means cutting her hair, wearing trousers and pretending to be a man to earn wages. But her father taught her to keep books and manage accounts, so she's more than qualified to be a secretary.
Benjamin Sinclair, the Earl of Sinclair, is still trying to recover from war injuries while trying to keep his servants. Can he trust this new secretary with his accounts, with his household staff, or with his heart?
This is the first Shirley Karr book I've ever read and I'm now a big fan. I enjoyed every second of this book, it kept me engaged. I was laughing at the comedy of a man trying not to notice a woman dressed as a man in front of other men or women for that matter. I was proud of the sense of honor, respect and duty in the primary characters that made them so likable. I was sad for the changes (physical and emotional) that shaped the hero and heroine, making them each believe they were unworthy and unlovable. I was delighted to see them both open up, trust and bond with each other as friends and then as passionate lovers. This books is a true page-turner, filled with tenderness, wit, charm, sensuality and sass.

Absolutely loved this book. I read this one twice. About a girl dressed as a young man posing as a secretary. The Earl eventually finds out that hse is a woman. Sinclar, the Earl keeps her on so that she might help him go over his financials. A budding romance comes between them. Very funny anecdotes between them. A must read

Wonderful story. I'm very glad I read this book.
This was the first Shirley Karr and it was great! I'm always hesitant to try a new author and the only reason I chose this one because the person I was trading with (Box o Books is great!) had this book.
I loved the plot (who doesn't love the boss/secretary scenario??) and the book is really sweet. There is a lot of stares, sighs, kisses, and some touching, but no sex. It's a good PG-rated romance.
It's definately worth a read.

The story was...cute. I enjoyed the verbal sparring between Sinclair and Quincy and their blossoming relationship was quite believable. The antics of the secondary characters made for an enjoyable read, as well.
However, I soon tired of Jo's "masquerade" when it was evident to me only a few chapters in that almost everyone who met her acquaintance saw right through her disguise.
A light easy read that most would enjoy.

Ok book. A little slow sometimes, but a nice read.
Book Description
What's a lord to do?
The devilishly attractive Earl of Sinclair is having trouble holding onto servants, what with so many of them pairing up and running off to be wed. Luckily, his able new secretary, J. Quincy, seems scrupulously loyal, and possesses the invaluable ability to flawlessly forge the master's signature. But imagine Sinclair's surprise when he discovers the "J" stands for "Josephine." His cherished employee is, in actuality, a quite delectable lady in disguise!
Jo desperately needs this position, and never actually lied about her gender -- though she didn't expect Sinclair's keen eye to expose the truth so quickly. If the ton finds out, the scandal could be devastating. But Jo believes she can still be of service to the dashing lord. The greatest difficulty, however, will be keeping her mind on business with Sinclair standing so tantalizingly, intoxicatingly close. And what this earl wants, he usually gets!

Really loved this book! Had a great story line, fun, romance, had it all!
Interesting story and written with a lot of emotion. Carries on the female-in-diguise story longer than most books that use the premise. A bit awkward at the end (did not like the whole ballroom scene) but a good read overall.
The Earl of Sinclair is fit to be tied! His servants have been pairing up and eloping, leaving the rest of his household staff referring to him as the matchmaking earl. His newest hire is his secretary Quincy.
It isn't long before his insolent employee wraps the household staff around his finger, which Sinclair is willing to overlook, especially when he realises that the backside he finds himself constantly staring at is not that of a boy, but of a full-grown woman! Quincy never actually lied; she simply never said she wasn't a he.
