Personally, I think there is no better reference for a woman who is pregnant. Granted, they are a little paranoid about some things (such as taking medications and what you eat, etc.) but overall the information is very helpful, particularly with its question & answer format. I highly recommend this book.

I hated this book. I tell everyone I know who's pregnant never to read it. It focuses so much on every little thing being a sign of disaster, almost all of which are the mother's fault for not eating the right thing/sleeping the right way/whatever. There is no joy in this book, only gloom. Try the Sears & Sears Baby Book instead!

I think that this book is one of the worst pregnancy books that I have ever read! Every chapter is full of what can go wrong with your baby, the pregnancy and birth. Yes it does have lots of pregnancy info. But it represented so negatively, and doesn't even come close to representing the wonder, joy, beauty, and anticipation that should be felt by expectant moms.

My favorite pregnancy book is the Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy. I read this book during my first pregnancy, and I though it was great, answering all my questions, but it also made me depressed and scared. It wasn't until my next child that I got other books to compare to it. There are many other books that are far, far better than this one.

As a natural childbirth educator in training and a normal birth advocate, I cannot endorse this book. While there is some very good information, there is a definite bent toward extremely "medical" childbirth.

This book is kind of vague. It is also set up to prepare you for a hospital birth instead of a natural one.

Helpful with lots of great information for during your pregnancy

Never finished reading - horrible format, too clinical, fear based, focuses on negative, "diet" is unreasonable - definately NOT lite-reading. Thought it was a "must-have"... definately NOT (for me, anyway). I wanted a natural birth (in a hospital, though) - this book was NOT helpful for my mindset or spiritual needs. Try Ina May Gaskin "Guide to Childbirth", Henci Goer "Thinking Woman's Guide...", and England/Horowitz "Birthing from Within" - those became my MUST-HAVES!!!

Way too fear based...very conservative. Most people like it for the format which is easy to read...but then it scares the crap out of them for no reason! The pregnancy/birth books by Dr. Sears or Sheila Kitzinger are much, much better!

this was one of the most helpful books i had when i was pregnant: it detailed each month including how you might feel emotionally, look physically, as well as what your baby was doing developmentally. It also includes a fair amount of things to watch out for, red flags etc, but it wasn't terrifing like some pregnancy books tend to be. Worth a read.

A must have for any mother to be!

This is a really out dated book. The book has useless knowledge and can even scare and worry expected parents. I would not recommend this book. If you have any questions, talk with your Dr. They are the best resource for up to date information.

I'm one of those Moms who had to know about the baby inside while I was pregnant for the first time. It helped my calm my anxiety and really gave good advise and guidance. I loved this book! I even was gifted the next one as my first grew older. This book was a great tool and I'm happy to pass it on to the next new mommy.

This book is very slanted toward the medical industry and leaves moms to worry about all the things that can go wrong in a pregnancy instead of just allowing them to enjoy the pregnancy. I wish this was no longer the standard that moms read. I would suggest any of the books by Dr. Sears.

GREAT reference book for during your pregnancy! Told you what foods to eat, what foods to stay away from, how to exercise while pregnant, and lots of other facts that most pregnant women DON'T know. Gave great details on what to expect during your pregnancy and labor!

Fabulous reference for pregnancy and beyond. I loved the anecdotal questions that you want to know about but seem silly when asked out loud to your doctor. Great for second babies and for dads, too! 479 pages of good stuff, organized month-by-month!
