This book had me laughing the whole way through. I recommend this to anyone who wants a fast, fun book with love, mystery, and laughter!
Kate Holly is a clinical psychologist with a practice full of truly crazy people, some of whom threaten her on a regular basis. Her best friend and receptionist is a zany gold digger-turned widow-turned millionaire heiress who also works as Kate's publicist, all for free of course.
Kate's life is complicated by two love interests (naturally). The fireman is much more interesting than the shrink in my opinion. Kate adopts a pregnant dog, something is blown up, her mom is nuts, the rest of her family is certifiable, she tends to run about Atlanta in various stages of undress - in other words, she's a mess. You get the picture.
Would I recommended it? - you bet; is it terribly original? - no way; does that really matter? - not always. Sometimes a book is just meant to be fun and this is one of those books.
I have the next book on the pile!

I had never read this author before, love the way she writes, love the story line, and the characters. I will keep reading this author.
One of the most funniest romance novels I've read. LOVE IT!!!
Fun light hearted quick read.
LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!! If you are a fan of Jant Evanovich you will love Charlotte Hughes and Kate Holly. They wrote a series together and have very similiar writing styles. Quick, fun, and witty! Can't wait to read the rest in the Kate Holly series!
This book is easy to read and a laugh along favorite. Good series! I hope to see a few more.
This is the perfect pool-side book.

First Line: As a clinical psychologist, I've spent most of my time trying to convince my clients they're not crazy.
You might be more familiar with Charlotte Hughes from the series she co-wrote with Janet Evanovich. I admit to reading the first, Full House, and not being very impressed.
This time, the South Carolina writer is all by her lonesome and introducing us to clinical psychologist Kate Holly. Kate lives in Atlanta in a house with mood swings that she calls "Mad Ethel". She's afraid to say too much about the house to her landlord in case all the repairs are made and the rent is raised. She has an eccentric receptionist who drums up business by such schemes as offering free manicures. and her mother and aunt collect junk art. (They recently installed a vaguely sexual sculpture in her front yard, and Kate's neighbors are up in arms.)
Her psychiatrist ex-boyfriend keeps referring all sorts of "interesting" cases to her, and Kate begins to receive mysterious threats. If she weren't so busy chasing after everyone, she just might be able to take these threats seriously.
Kate is an extremely likable character. She has a good turn of phrase (I blushed so hard that I was certain I'd singed my eyebrows), and we tend to see eye-to-eye on things: Despite my Ph.D. in clinical psychology, I had yet to figure out why Popeye and Brutus were constantly coming to fisticuffs over a woman like Olive Oyl.
I also liked the care and concern Kate showed with each of her patients. What did wear a little thin with me throughout the first section of the book was her reason for divorcing her firefighter husband-- she literally cannot stand the thought of his being in danger every single day. That's the only reason. Kate's explanations carried on a bit too long for me, to the point where I wanted to tell her to put on her big girl panties and deal with it. Good thing I'm not the psychologist, eh?
Other than being mildly irked with Kate for the first quarter of the book and wondering about a practically non-existent mystery, I greatly enjoyed this book. Hughes' skill in characterization will have me looking for the second book in the series, Nutcase, when I need something light and fun.

The is an excellent beginning to a new series. I loved the writing style and it kept you hooked the entire book. I can't wait to get the next book in the series. Funny, interesting and quick everything that makes a book good.
This is a madcap romantic comedy with sparkling characters and laugh-out-loud situations. The psychologist's patients have human foibles and the relatives are classic emotional baggage that you love to love. With a stellar hero, no really, he's a stand-up guy in every way, I'm definitely hooked on this series and hope to read more of Charlotte Hughes' fun and fast reads.
Charlotte Hughes collaborated with Janet Evanovich on several books and this is her first in a series authored by herself. It's a funny romance in the style of the Evanovich books and is a quick read. You'll enjoy it!. I've got the second book in the series and can't wait to start on it.,
great funny book
Funny book - and as a psychotherapist myself, I have to say that Ms. Hughes is quite accurate about her clinical stuff in the book too!
This is the first book I have read by this author (besides the co-authored ones with Janet Evanovich). I LOVED IT! I couldn't put it down. The characters were fun, funny, likable and the plot just kept you wanting to read. I can't wait to read the next in the series, "Nutcase".

This book had be cracking up the whole way through. It's obviouse in Hughes style that she is buddies with Janet Evanovich; but it's still a style all it's own. Definitely a must read!
This book is actually pretty funny. There is no heavy thinking in it, just a good time.
There are a lot of "nutty" people in this book, but they are all very likeable. All the characters have their issues, especially Kate Holly, but it is a reminder that we all have brokenness and can cope with the help of crazy relatives and friends!
Funny, It was a great novel.

A fun series. You can tell Charlotte Hughes wrote with Janet Evanovich. A wacky heroine, a dog, love, explosions! Mix it all up! In this one the heroine is a psycholgist who needs a psychologist!
This is my first book by this author. I'd say it was good enough and would read another by this author. The characters were fun.
Haven't read the book yet.
Psychologist Kate Holly's own life has become the stuff of intensive therapy. She's divorcing her gorgeous firefighter husband, she has an eccentric secretary, her mother and aunt have erected a vaguely sexual sculpture in her front yard, and her psychiatrist ex-boyfriend won't stop calling to find out what color panties she's wearing. Now, Kate's being bombarded with mysterious threats, and the only person who can help her is the one man who always makes her lose her mind-and heart.
