Love it. I totally agree. Things are not important, yet they seem to overtake us.
What of material culture? We leave so much evidence of our lives - of our manipulation of life - of our fabled coming into this world and our strained, defiant going, our clinging to these tethers – bones, books, words and gods. We’ve filled the earth to overflowing with our remnants, our debris - anthropomorphic reflections of some ephemeral source, which continues to elude us even in our abundance, ruling the land after our death with impunity. We were here; we still ARE here! We are harder, bolder, more intractable posthumously. Our possessions, emblems of our material waste, possess the earth, stain her body like war paint. |
