This book is a fictionalized account of a journal from Simone Spencer, an eighteen year old girl. She starts journaling around the start of WWI. She joins up with the Signal Corps and ends up on the front lines. I couldn't put the book down.
This book is listed for 9-12 grade reading level, but, I rather enjoyed it. Anyone who is interested in history of WWI from the eyes of a girl coming of age or if you'd like to read of the unsung heroines of WWI this is a good one.

This is a beautiful book and story. Simone Spencer sees the beginning of America in World WAR 1 and hopes that her life will not change. But it does her brother joins the army and she joins the women's Signal Corps because she speaks English and French. She meets the love of her life in France and is told that he is dead, just to find him later in a Veterans Hospital in New York. The characters are fiction, but the historical details are true. This is a great book.I could not put it down until I finished it. Simone is full of energy and kindness.
