I really wanted to like this book more than 3 stars as I consider myself a Krentz fan and have probably read everything she has written under all of her pen names. However, I just couldn't enjoy the women's revenge plot line. There was too much intrigue and not enough romance for my taste. You do get the happily ever after, but I wanted to see more romance and less financial machinations.

Knowing that this book is one in a trilogy helps me understand that some questions would not be answered yet. Having read practically all of the this author's books, I have come to expect a great read. This book did not disappoint. The main characters Charlotte Sawyer and Max Cutler are a great foil for each other and the plot had me hooked until the end. As a side element, we find that Max and his 2 foster brothers are looking for closure to their shared past involving a cult and a supposedly dead cult leader. This explains the trilogy but this book can be read as a stand alone novel. I can't wait to read book two and see how this plays out
