When her senior year starts, Sara's attention is focused on college and on Dave. Dave is a new student and a popular athlete, and Sara thinks he may just be a candidate for the "something real" she wants to find. Tobey, however, is focused on his music and on Sara. He wants Sara to fall in love with him (as he is in love with her, despite the fact that the two are not close), but unfortunately he's got Dave as competition.
Despite Sara's attraction to Dave, Tobey and Sara are obviously meant to be together. They're almost unrealistically compatible, having even the little things--such as how they eat their onion rings--in common. Even more importantly, they both want the same thing. They're both searching for "the one," a soulmate, what Sara calls "something real"--could they find it in each other? Even if they do, there are still some obstacles. Tobey and Sara want different things from their futures, but can they overcome that?
WHEN IT HAPPENS is a wonderful story told in the fresh voices of Tobey and Sara. It's a romance, certainly, but there's more to it than that. Tobey and Sara are fantastic, likeable, and believable characters, with lives outside of each other, which adds an extra dimension to what would otherwise just be one of a million cheesy romance novels, but is instead a wonderfully written and almost too-good-to-be-true story of two teenagers looking for love.

My Thoughts: This has been on my TBR pile for a while now. I bought it off amazon a while ago. It was one of my guilty pleasure reads, you know one of those books you bought for a rainy day where you want to snuggle with it and read over a cup of hot cocoa. I started it and read it in one sitting! We meet Sara who is a beautiful next door type. She used to go out with Scott and is now interested in Dave, the popular jock. Tobey also catches her eye. Tobey is somewhat of a loner who used to date Cynthia but really wants to be with Sara. In his eyes, she is the perfect girl for him. But Sara is going out with Dave now, so how can Sara possible like him? There are the side characters, Tobey's best friends and Sara's best friends. I loved this book. There were a few lines that were somewhat graphic that I loved! They made me smirk. They made me laugh out loud! Also, there was a part about Tobey falling up the stars. That reminded me of myself, something I could see happening to me. This book was cute, fun, full of romance, and a perfect read in my eyes!! It also switches between Tobey and Sara's point of view. Sometimes that bothers me in books but not Susane's! I love knowing what the characters are feeling. If you haven't read this, order it from amazon right now!!!
Overall: Loved it plain and simple. Will be going on my keeper shelf.
Cover: Love the cover. It fits the book and is so cute! Love the way we can't see their faces but can see Tobey's guitar.

This is a cute book. I recommend it to 8th-10th graders.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick read and it's really cute overall. The story is told from alternating perspectives, which I really enjoyed. Just beware because the book has a lot more to do with sex than one might expect from the totally adorable cover, and on some occassions (particularly from the guy's perspective) some comments are made that are kind of vulgar and innapropriate. Most of it is pretty innocent and there is nothing graphic, but I found myself a little taken aback by some of the comments the boys made, and I'm 23, lol.

This is the best book I've ever read! I connect, personally, to this book so much. It was one of those books where you read the first two chapters and you CAN'T put down! I read the second chapter and I was hooked! I couldn't stop reading for anything! So, be prepaired! Once you start this book, you cant stop!
