I've read all of this series and I really like it. Even though this is the first one in the series, I read it last, but even knowing how the characters are going to develop, it didn't take anything away from this story. Maybe because it doesn't take place in Georgia as most of the rest of them do. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is the first book in a new series called the MacLaren Yarbrough Mysteries. The main character - MacLaren Yarbrough - is a nosy, persistent person who just has to find out "when did we lose Harriet?" when no one else seems to care about what happened to her when she disappeared. It is an enjoyable, humorous, easy to read book.

I had read others in this series out of order and wanted to get in on the beginning...I was actually glad for once that I had done so. I am not a fan of overtly Christian fiction and this first volume quotes Scripture every chapter. The rest of the series (published by a different imprint) is just as good and just as cozy without the Biblical references. Had I read this first, I may never have read more--as it is MacLaren Yarborough is becoming an endearing friend. Southern women with brains always make great characters, and when they aren't size 2 or young or beautiful, the characters are even more believable.

A MacLaren Yarbrough Mystery in the Thoroughly Southern series. This book introduces you to the razor-sharp insight, the salty wit, and the tenacious faith of MacLaren, who finds the answer to the question of "When Did We Lose Harriet?".
