My initial experience with trying to read books by Buddhist monks was that it was difficult to get into, but not so with this author. I think she's very easy to understand and truly has something new to say.

If you ever have the chance to listen to a CD or Audio of Pema Chodron - DO IT.
When Things Fall Apart and Don't Bite the Hook are both the very best for soothing the mind and heart. Pema makes you feel that she has been through the same stress and trouble in life, and indeed, she has. She offers a Buddhist's perspective to very American life crises. Her wisdom is from the Buddha, but totally useful to those of us living in this life. My friend, a Catholic priest, gave me this book and the CD of Don't Bite the Hook. I am forever grateful.

Drawn from traditional Buddhist wisdom, Pema Chodron's radical & compassionate advide for what to do when things fall apart in our lives goes against the grain of our usual habits & expectations. There is only one approach to suffering that is of lasting benefit, & that approach involves moving toward painful situations with friendliness & curiosity . . . . (from the back cover)

Pema Chodron uses Buddhist wisdom to help individuals cope when things fall apart. She basically espouses moving toward fear and painful situations to benefit from the experience.
