I could not put this book down. It has a very sad theme, a mother who loses her sons, but as you read of how her walk with God got her through a deep depression you feel so uplifted. I laughed & cried but when I finished I felt better for having "shared" her story.
It's about how a mother copes with discovering her son is gay and breaks contact with her for 11 years. Although (thankfully) I haven't had to experience my children being gay ... I did experience the terrible heartbreak that only a mother can feel when our son disowned us and refused to speak to us (any contact at all) for 3 months. I think mothers can gather some strength from this book if they are experiencing heartache caused by their children for whatever reason.
A true story of a wife and mother who learned how to cope with the crippling of her husbnd, the deaths of two sons, and the homosexuality of a third. A story that will warm your heart and encourage you to trust God right where you live in the crunch of sometimes uncontrollable events.
Back Cover: "Thi is the true story of a wife and mother who learned how to cope with the crippling of her husband, the deaths of two sons, and the homosexuality of a third." I think this book is a testament to all of humankind because of its inspiring nature. This woman never gave up despite the innundations of tragedy in her life.
When I read the title before I purchased it, I thought it would be a book of frivoloty, of humor about being a mother. Instead it has mesmerized, inspired and taught me that if you persevere and and have faith in yourself and in your higher power "whatever that is" (to this woman it is God) you will be successful in your hardest challenges. I couldn't put this book down. Her ability to express in minute detail the ravages her mind went through while simultaneously dealing with her everyday life and duties as friend, sister, wife, mother and all those role a woman must fulfill in today's society is amazing.
