I am so hooked on this series, and this book, which is the 6th, totally lived up to my expectations. The mystery is complex, the ongoing romantic subplot is compelling, and the historical detail is excellent. I love the H&H and can't wait to see how their relationship progresses in the next book.
If you are new to the Sebastian St. Cyr series, you really should go back and read them in order or you won't understand some of the cryptic references or the motivations of the characters in this book.
5 stars.
P.S. I am not getting into the plot details here, because I don't want to be a spoiler. Just read it for yourself!

Book six in a series that continues to enchant and educate. As someone not drawn to mysteries, I must say I find this series absolutely compelling.

The relationships explored by all the main characters is constantly in flux as in real life and that makes this all the better.

I don't want to give away any plot points but will say this is a must read.

From book cover:
While hunting a ruthless assassin targeting diplomats, Sebastian discovers that his bride-to-be, Hero Jarvis, knows something about the victims-something that can get her and their unborn child killed...

An overly convoluted plot mars this otherwise solid historical set in 1812, Harris's sixth featuring aristocratic London detective Sebastian St. Cyr (after 2009's What Remains of Heaven). When surgeon Paul Gibson finds a cadaver that he bought for anatomical study with a stab wound at the base of the skull, Gibson brings the matter to St. Cyr's attention. The corpse is identified as that of Alexander Ross, who worked for the Foreign Office. Several other murders follow, at least some of which may be linked with the political turmoil roiling the Continent in the wake of Napoleon's invasion of Russia. Meanwhile, Hero Jarvis, the independent daughter of St. Cyr's archenemy, accepts his marriage proposal, but this dramatic personal development compensates only in part for the failure of the disparate narrative threads to come together neatly enough. Series fans will hope the intriguing lead character will return to form in the next installment.

Regency London: July 1812. How do you set about solving a murder no one can reveal has been committed? â That's the challenge confronting C.S. Harris's aristocratic soldier-turned-sleuth Sebastian St. Cyr when his friend, surgeon and "anatomist" Paul Gibson, illegally buys the cadaver of a young man. This is the 6th book in the Sebastian St. Cyr series. It is one of my favorite series and I love at the characters. C.S. Harris does her homework on the historical facts. Her stories are political plots that are fast-moving. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and recommend this series to those who love historical novels with political intrigue.
