This is the third Grann book I've read. I started out with "Killers of the Flower Moon" which I gave five stars; then I read "The Lost City of Z" which (I believe) I gave three stars. "The White Darkness" could be five stars but I am only giving it four because of the length. The book is 146 pages. There are many pictures, including some that are an entire page or even two pages. If there were no pics, the book would likely be 100 pages or so. It wasn't until after I was done reading that I learned that the book was basically a couple magazine articles cobbled together which explains the book's brevity.

The writing was good. The pictures underscored the starkness of the environment. The ending wasn't what I expected. I got the book through paperbackswap.com so only had to pay a swap fee of $.49. For anyone interested in reading this book, I would suggest getting it from the library or requesting it through a bookswapping site.
