My first Sandra Brown book and I've got to say I was thoroughly entertained. The ending was a little farfetched, in my opinion, but overall I enjoyed it.

Excellent! She is such a great storyteller. A real surprise ending, as most of her books are. Loved it!

Typical engrossing Sandra Brown fare. Determined, strong willed heroine. Fierce, possibly evil, hero. Tension (and torid sex) between the two. Happy ending.
A great "beach book" -- better written than many. I seem to be hooked! I have to admit to being fooled about the ending this time. Clever.

Sandra Brown's books keep getting better and this story was no exception. I did read this about a year ago and can't totally remember the whole story, but I do remember that I couldn't put it down. I keep the great ones to reread and this is one I still have.

Good story plot, but the romance did not tie in well with the plot at all.. both characters dislike each other in one page, and the next they're passionately embracing.. didn't flow at all.

Wonderful. I really liked this one. You definatally get inside the main charater's head.

I'm not a romance fan, and bought this book thinking it was a mystery/thriller. Even so, I enjoyed it. It's well written and suspenseful. The plot twisted and turned until the very end. It kept me hooked.

Sayre Lynch breaks her vow of ten years never to return home again when her younger brother dies. Her tyranntical father owns the only industry in the small LA town and provides most of the jobs. Corruption, fear, lust, revenge, murder, intrigue, romance--you'll find it all in this novel.

A 600 page book that covers ony two weeks in time and keeps you going to discover what has and is happening.
A good Book. About a Young Woman returning to Her hated Hometown, to solve Her Brothers Suicide. {murder]
family conflct, murder and romance.
While not Sandra Brown's best book, it still held my interest and provided for some hours of enjoyment.
#1 bestselling author Sandra Brown ignites crackling suspense and fiery emotion in an unforgettable novel of passion and vengeance.
When her younger brother, Danny, commits suicide, Sayre Lynch breaks her vow never to return to her Louisiana hometown, and gets drawn back into her tyrannical father's web. He and her older brother -- who control the town's sole industry, an iron foundry -- are as corrupt as ever. Worse, they have hired a shrewd and disarming new lawyer, Beck Merchant...a man with his own agenda. When the police determine that Danny's suicide was actually a homicide, Sayre must battle her family -- and her passionate feelings for Beck -- as she confronts a powder keg of old hatreds, past crimes, and a surprising plan of revenge.

Another great Sandra Brown mystery/love story. Loved the twist at the end!
Great Book - Sandra at her Best
When her brother commits suicide Sayre returns to her hometown where she has vowed to never return. Her family owns a casting company and they are crooked. When she goes to town for her brothers funeral, she meets Beck Merchant her fathers lawyer and she stays in town because her brothers suicide is ruled a murder. She has to overcome a lot of bad memories from her past to help solve the murder of her brother. This book is excellent reading and it is up to the standards that Sandra Browns books are always a certainty to be.
From Publishers Weekly
White-hot labor disputes, family conflict, murder and romance are ablaze in bestselling Brown's latest romantic thriller (after Hello, Darkness), when Sayre Lynch returns to Destiny, La., for her brother Danny's funeral. Estranged from her family for 10 years, Sayre arrives in town believing Danny committed suicide, but suspects otherwise after a surprise encounter at the cemetery and a disquieting interview with the sheriff's deputy. The Bayou-born firebrand now San Francisco interior decorator stays to investigate her brother's last days, confronting her father, Huff Hoyle, the powerful owner of the foundry that provides most of the town's jobs and all its corruption; defying her brother Chris, Huff's heir apparent and OSHA's worst nightmare; and becoming the first woman on the floor of the hellish factory that fuels the family fortune. At every turn, Sayre crosses paths with Huff's handsome lawyer henchman, Beck Merchant, irresistible although he represents everything she despises. The steamy pair cannot escape each other or their conclusions about Hoyle Enterprises. Brown makes up in pace and intensity what she lacks in prose style, guaranteeing readers a brain vacation in print, much like watching a favorite movie: an exciting yet familiar experience, the satisfactory resolution never in doubt.

This book absorbs you real quick. Has a lot of twists and turns that are very unexpected. A lot of secrets that, when you find out, just makes you nod your head in finally understanding. Great storytelling.
Returning to her home town after her younger brother's suicide, Sayre fights against her family and "old hatreds, past crimes" in order to discover the truth about her brother's death.
Keeps you reading from beginning to end. One of those late nighters that you just have to read to the end.
This book is a good 'who-done-it' with a slice of romance. Set in Louisiana, White Hot takes the reader through the strife that a powerful, ruthless foundry owner causes his family. Very easy to read.
Suspense to the very end!
as usual, ms brown has written a winner. about a family-owned steel mill that has many secrets.
Sandra Brown's cross from the romance genre into mystery has been an excellent move in my opinion. Of the many authors who have made this switch, she is one of the best!
In WHITE HOT, Sayre Lynch returns to Destiny, LA for her brother Danny's funeral. Even though she's not had contact with her family for over ten years, she is tossed into the middle of a minefield, some of which is her own doing. Huff, her father, is still the same egotistical, domineering person he always has been. He continues to run his foundry with an iron fist, and dares union reps and government officials to try to make him change the way he does business. Chris, Sayre's brother, is his father's yes-man. The sad part is that he's been spoiled by Huff and in growing up in this environment has been corrupted into Huff's way of thinking. Beck Merchant, Chris' college buddy, and now legal counsel to Hoyle Enterprises, is just like a member of the family and his level of corruption is often at the center of debate between he and Sayre.
As Sayre says a final farewell to Danny at the grave, she meets his fiancée and begins to doubt that her brother committed suicide. This begins the journey into corruption, self indulgence, and a good old fashion "who dun it" that at times leaves the reader just as breathless as those in Destiny trying to endure a heat wave. Between the accidents at the foundry, the union strike, the attacks by a local reprobate (Slap Watkins), flying sparks between Beck and Sayre, and other incidences the reader isn't given a chance to relax!
Character development is excellent, as usual for Brown. Sayre lives up to her redhead temperament, and her bouts with Beck will make the reader chuckle, and also feel the electricity between the two. A bit predictable, we are not surprised when Sayre and Beck give in to temptation and begin an affair.
Being fooled very seldom as to the villain's identity, Brown did have me wondering if I was correct in my choice. She confused the issue right up until the last 20 pages, and the twist left me smiling and being thoroughly entertained! But a few of the loose ends that she tied up were not a surprise even if they were extremely minor!
Overall, WHITE HOT was fast paced, action packed, and full of life. The story had life, as well as the characters. This book emphasizes why Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors!

This was a fantastic book. Sandra writes so well. Her character development, plotlines, and just her writing style in general are exactly what I love in a good book.
You will be sitting on the edge of your seat. It is hard to believe there is still this kind of corruption in the working world.
I had never read this author before but she was good.
Sayre never gives up her search for the truth.

Sandra Brown never dissappoints.
Sandra Brown is a good mystery author. Good reading.
Good action thriller which takes place in the deep South; very interesting characters and lots of sizzle.
Great story, didn't want to put the book down. Kept me guessing as to who the "bad-guys" were.
Definately would recommend!
Definately would recommend!
Strong woman lead character. Suicide or homicide???
A interesting tale that keeps you wondering what's next.
Worse, they have hired a shrewd and disarming new lawyer, Beck Merchant -- a man with his own agenda. When the police determine that Danny's suicide was actually a homicide, Sayre must battle her family -- and her passionate feelings for Beck -- as she confronts a powder keg of old hatreds, past crimes, and a surprising plan of revenge.
If you like mystery/suspense, you'll love this. It is long, but goes very quickly. excellent.
Great edge-of-your-seat read!
Set in Louisiana. Sayre Lynch returns to the one place she never wanted to see again. Home.
She battles her family and her feelings for the family lawyer as she tries to find out the truth about her brother's death.

My first Brown novel. I enjoyed it and am willing to check out her other works!
Dysfunctional family, murder, romance - typical Sandra Brown and a very good story.
Top knotch story to keep you at the edge of your seat ...Sayre Lynch who had vowed never to return home, has returned after her younger brother commits suicide...or did he????
579 pages
579 pages
Lots of plot twists and turns and one that you might not have guessed. This isn't one of her best books. It's begiining to seem like the more expensive her books get the less believable the stories. These characters were a little difficult to care about. I also hate this size book. The print is bigger and the pages thicker neither of which is necessary but drives up the production costs I'm sure. That certainly isn't the author's fault though.
WGEB HER YOUNGER BROTHER DANNY, COMMITS SUICIDE, SAYRE LYNCH BREAKS HER VOW NEVER TO RETURN TO HER LOUISANNA HOMETOWN, AND GETS DRAWN BACK INTO HER TYRANNICAL FATHER'S WEB. HE AND HER OLDER BROTHER-WHO CONTROL THE TOWN'S SOLE INDUSTRY, AN IRON FOUNDRY-ARE AS CORRUPT AS EVER. WORSE, THEY HAVE HIRED A SHREWD AND DISARMING LAWYER, BECK MERCHANT.... WHEN THE POLICE DETERMINE THAT DANNY'S SUICIDE WAS ACTUALLY A HOMICIDE, SAYRE MUST BATTLE HER FAMILY-HER PASSIONATE FEELINGS FOR BECK-AS SHE CONFRONTS A POWDER KEG OF OLD HATREDS, PAST CRIMES, AND A SURPRISING PLAN OF REVENGE.

He and her older brother - who control the town's sole industry, an iron foundry - are as corrupt as ever. Worse, they have hired a shrewd and disarmng new lawyer, Beck Merchant...a man with his own agenda. When the police determine that Danny's suicide was actually a homicide, Sayre must battle her family - and her passionate feelings for Beck - as she confronts a powder keg of old hatreds, past crimes, and a surprising plan of revenge.
Story is long and involved and a bit slow to get to the point, but this book is a good read. The romance is there, but not the highlight of the book.
Good romantic mystery from Sandra Brown. Set in small town Louisana, it chronicles the hatreds and corruption of a family dynasty

i enjoyed tis book and it has a twist at the end.
Good beach read
love this author she always has a good story to tell
This book takes off from the moment it begins. It is full of suspense, mystery, and spicy romance. The story centers around Louisiana, and a family that owns a foundry that controls a town. How one man can literally destroy peoples lives.
A real page turner with a relatively surprising ending. True Sandra Brown suspense.
Another great book by Sandra Brown. So many twists and just enough romance.
Written by Sandra Brown, for those enjoy romantic thrillers nuf said.

This is the first time I read her work. It was a real good bk and I will read more bks from S. Brown. The writing was believeable, and suspensfull. I was up till 3am to see the ending!
Excellent romantic suspense by a great author. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved it!

Typically Sandra Brown...I love all of hers...especially the surprise endings
Very good. Sandra Brown at her best.
I loved this book. I had to keep reading it, it was so intense. If you love Sandra Brown this book is a must read.
One of Sandra Brown's best. Plenty of twists and surprises, believable characters, engrossing story.
Mystery. Quite a good Author
I enjoyed the book very much. It's about a women who returns back to her Louisiana home town due to her brothers "suicide" and ends up investigating working conditions at her fathers foundry as well as her brothers death. With a subplot of romance, but it doesn't overwhelm the story.
This is only the second book of Sandra Browns that I have read. I am now a fan and want to read more. This was a page turner, with a surprise ending.
Classic Sandra Brown. Good character development.
Great twists and unforgetable characters
Page turner!
Interesting story. Moves pretty fast. One of her better ones
This is a good book about abduction, betrayal, and murder. The story is about Sayre Lynch, who has major conflicts with her family, moves away to start a new life, then returns to her home town when her younger brother commits suicide. She is drawn back into her tyrannical father's web while trying to solve the mystery of her brother's suicide. This is an exciting read.
I enjoyed this book very much. But then who doesn't like a good Sandra Brown?
The tangled web.....she swore that she would not come back home....she hates her father.....she mourns the loss of her brother....as she falls in love with her brothers best friend who is her fathers front man. Throw in another brother who is both jealous and a loose cannon and you have a very moving plot that keeps you involved in this novel.
Corrupt tyrannical father and older brother control the town; sister returns to town upon younger brother's suicide, new shrewd disarming lawyer, all works together for a great whodunit.
Sayre Lynch returns to her hometown to deal with the death of her brother. Her father and other brother are just as corrupt as ever!
She meets Beck Merchant and fireworks flare! What a great read! I couldn't put it down and read it in about 3 days.

Another Sandra Brown great. An action thriller filled with family conflict, murder and romance.
Sayre returns to her home town to her brothers funeral to a family she does not want to belong to. To find she has to find answers to questions arising . Twist in the story that surprise you.
I loved this book! I was very suprised at the ending! Just when I thought I had it all figured out! Could not put this one down. I also love the way the book is one of those longer shaped with the thicker pages makes it more comfortable to read!
I kept reading just a page or so...another page...I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. Holy smoke.. what a book.
Keeps you guessing until the end
This is another on of Sandra Brown's great books. This is a mystery that has a few surprises throughout and especially at the end. If you like good mysteries, you'll love this one.
Great mystery. Lots of intrigue.l
Typical Sandra Brown. Good characters, OK story.
The death of her brother brings Sayre home for the first time in ten years. The story sucks you right on in and keeps you till the end.
Family generational drama in Louisana.
I did not figure this one out until the very last chapter when the
killer was revealed.......and there is a surprise i never even thought
about until it was revealed as well....a very good one from Sandra
Brown.

Real enjoyable, love and mystery
It Has My Name written in it but other than that,it's in good shape,no torn pages or cover.
Could not put this book down. Murder, family conflict and romance with a twist at the end. Exciting!
Even though she swore she would never return to Destiny, Sayre Lynch goes home to attend her brother's funeral. But she soon learns that his suicide may actually have been murder. She also finds that her father still runs the town's foundry with an iron fist. Sayre is horrified by the conditions at the foundry and it's history of accidents and fatalities. She wants to help bring change to the business, but her family's attorney, Beck Merchant, is standing in her way.
It took me almost a week to get through this book. It was billed as romantic suspense, but I found it neither romantic nor suspenseful. The saving grace of the book was the plot twist near the end. My rating: 3 Stars.

You know, I don't normally review books, but felt that maybe I should start. Ms. Brown is an excellent writer, but I have long ago gotten sick and tired of explicit sexual scenes. I especially feel these do not contribute to the stories at all and the ones that go on for several pages only indicate the depravity of the writer. I have started deleting these offensive authors from my reading lists (which are extensive) and I do not recommend their books to anyone. In fact I usually destroy the books so no one else reads them. Don't know why I didn't destroy this one, buy oh well....

it delicately weaved into a it Story.
It's story is...ATTENTIONNNN...SIT UP TAKE NOTICE.. demanding while it peaks little by little then show signs of revolving, and at the same time blends into sharing portions of it's secrets.
The story teller makes it seem with little of ease(what a season Writer!) to connect, cross, and joined everything together...all as ONE all proper like.
Yet and still the climaxes kept being reborn with Bursts of explosion, dissolving in to colorful arrays of real life fast pace suspense ,romance & drama.

As I Listen I heard and took in the Story with an...OPEN MIND. Heyyy that's sooo American to demonstrate...my Freedom Choice!!
The Hero/Heroine blend&jellied very well together!
The Hero-BECK was smart, sexier than he had a right, also Tough too!
You know, this Reader was not at all taken back by the character, disposition of the Heroine.
It was different cause usually it's the HERO who act ornery, because of sigma's society places on us...we don't say much about it..men acting out how they feel..it's the NORM. but when WOMAN...acts ornery she gets persecuted.
It's a wonder SAYRE...what a lovely name didn't have a breakdown...what a tough Cookie;O)
All the lemons that what smacked up side SAYRE head, and knives diggers thrown into her heart her feelings, however her actions&feelings were justifiable, also how her own blood/relatives mistreated her It sunk!
I felt Sayre's pain.
What a passionate Spitfire Sayre was and I give kudos to her for taking a stand for the TRUTH cause some folk wouldn't nor couldn't separate themselves from family the way she did!
Sayre was such a TRUE... SHE-ROE ,
like most STRONG BRAVE COURAGEOUS woman she endure hardship liken to a good solider.
I Champion for the love Sayre & Beck shared...even in the mist of sooo much pain,suffering&death...Love prevail in the end...!
THANKS once again Ms. Brown for entertainment at it's very, very BEST!
