I was looking for a break in my historical fiction/Holocaust stories. I really enjoyed her book "The Fall of Marigolds", so I picked this one. I was really getting into the story about the little girl who was left at her grandmother's who she didn't even know, when her wayward father decided to travel to Europe searching for hidden treasures. I didn't know it was going to turn into a Holocaust story, plus a whole other plotline during the book! Of course, everything comes together in the end. It just seemed like too many plotlines going on at once for my taste.
