This is fun. A great thriller that continues to pull you into every page. The plot is germ warfare, the idea though is a great twist. Please someone check this because you are missing out. I love a good thriller and this is one of the best.

I LOVED this book! The Philadelphia Inquirer is quoted on the front cover as saying, "Everyone likes a page turner, and Follett is the best." This is the truth. I could hardly stop reading it. But it's a long book at 468 pages in paperpack, so I had to take breaks when my eyes started to burn. Still, I raced through it. The action starts in the first chapter and from there, you never look back. What I like about Ken Follett's writing is that he does his research well so that he can have a plausible background for his thrillers. Then, he doesn't just bore you with car chases and mass killings: He fleshes out his characters well, adds a little romance, puts a little family feeling into the mix and what you end up with is a top-notch thriller that won't bore you. I do not like the basic cop and bad guy scenario. You will not get that kind of boring, predictable story line here.
Helpful Score: 4
Engaging thriller about bio-terrorism thwarted by a female ex-cop and the family of her employer, abetted by a freak snowstorm. Follett creates a high-tech security system for the bad guys to defeat, but anyone who's ever worked with extremely dangerous materials will recognize a flaw the author doesn't even acknowledge.

Wow. Very exciting story. Griping, intense, fast paced, surprising, had me turning pages so fast...hated to get to the end of this one. Love Ken Follett.

Great book! This book has suspense, medical terror, betrayal and romance all thrown in! You will enjoy it.

This was a great audio book - I really enjoyed it. Set in Scotland, the reader is Scottish and while it takes a bit to get used to, the accent really lends to the story telling.
The plot was engaging, was tough to step away from. It was filled with surprises and the tension was high throughout. I would strongly recommend this audio book to anyone who enjoys audio books!

This turned out to be a real pageturner but it took awhile to get going with it. At the end I spent a whole day reading that last 300 pages just to see what would happen. I'll probably read more of him now that I know what he can do.

Good author. Really a nice written book. Couldn't put it down with suspence.

In all honesty, I tried to get into this one and couldn't. That's all I can tell you. If you like books with characters stranded and the resultant conflicts and confusion, it's probably for you. It IS a Ken Follett novel, so there's that.

a typical papege-turner Follett book.

As scary as the idea of a security breach is in a labratory that works with deadly viruses, Ken Follet throws in a disfunctional family to capture the thieves. A different type of Christmas story!

Great thriller

A quick read about a biological terrorist plot. All the action takes place in one location with only a few characters - no major international intrigue. Worth reading but not a landmark thriller.

One of the better Follett books I have read. Hard to put down. A man turns against his family in stealing a dangerous virus in order to pay his way out of his gambling debt.

Human betrayal, medical terror and a race against time are the settings for this Ken Follett thriller. If you like suspense-filled drama in a page-turner book, you will like Ken Follett's books.

An exciting thriller set in Scotland.
Many people are familiar with Ken Follett's books. If you are not, they are basically suspense, and real page turners.
This book introduced me to Ken Follet - I think his best !
I enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and interesting. It took place over a 48 hour time line. I liked how everyone got involved, there is just not one hero.
Serious page turner to the end.
I like all Ken Follett's books!
A lab technician bleeding from the eyes. Twelve missing samples of a deadly virus. Toni Gallo, the security director of a Scottish medical research firm, knows that she has problems, but she has no idea of the nightmare to come.
Another gripping mystery by a master writer
Very good read , a blizzard of a tale
Not Follett's best, but an enjoyable read. It lacks the detail and sweep of, say, The Pillars of the Earth, but it's interesting and has a plausible plot.
A medical thriller.
As a Christmas Eve blizzard whips out of the north, several people converge on a remote family house. All have something to gain or lose from the drug developed to fight the virus, the deadly virus of which 12 missing samples are being sought. Action, intrigue, drama, suspense.
VERY VERY EXCITING - FOLLETT IS AN EXCELLENT WRITER.
Not his best effort, but still a fine read by a great suspense writer.
Very Good Book! The characters were strong, & the story had you on the edge of your seat. I will be looking for more of Follett's books!
Rick thought it was a very, very good thriller.
Good read.
A FAST READ, FOLLETT KEEPS YOUR INTEREST UNTIL THE LAST PAGE.
great suspense read!
A good read - a real page turner.
A great, fast-paced read. Very edge-of-your seat, especially the last 100 pages or so. Excellent!
This book drew me in and did not falter. It had a good, constant pace. I like that it wasn't overly long. It's about a son who betrays his father by stealing a deadly virus from his father's company for the purpose of selling it to cover gambling debts. It is also about the relationship that develops between the father and the head of his security. Not overly mushy. Good ending as well.
Human betrayal, medical terror and a race against time. Ken Follett at his best.
Great read!
A taut and exciting thriller with a diverse cast of characters. Highly recommended.
this is not the authors best but it is a good read with many twists and turns.i really enjoyed it
Ken Follet is always a good read and this one is set in Scotland at Christmas, so who could ask for more.
This is a very good book. It was a pageturner, for me. Lots of twists. Very good and interesting characters. If you like a good mystery, you'll like this book. Very intriguing!
I loved Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (one of my favoite books of all time!) so I decided to check out some of his older works. This book is a great mystery with high-tech and medical mystery elements, and great character development between all of the members of the family.

Excellent plot!
Could not put this book down.Great read.
Terrific thriller, well laid out, as all of his are.
The head of security at a pharmacutical research lab, who is a beautiful woman, finds a deadly virus has been stolen from under her nose by a group intending to use it for mass murder. The hunt is on for the group in a blizzard only to find she is falling in love with the research company owner, whos son is involved in the theft.
Ejoyable read. The whole bungled theft is rather silly.
Missing deadly virus in Scotland is the story basis. He gets into various family personalities and the planned theft of the virus. Fast read for 470 pages.
good read for mystery enthusiasts....biolab robbery, family betrayal, love story
Not one of his best but a nice read during my January ski vacation to Utah.
I think it was an ok book. Took me awhile to read it, which is unusual.
Gripping and suspenseful Ken Follett novel about bioterrorism. A real nail-biter.
Follett's trademark tension and breakneck pacing...."Kirkus Review"
A real page turner! I could not put it down.
This book was great. It was the first book I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more of his books.
This was a good book. The ending was a forgone conclusion, but the steps or events in between were laid out in great fashion. Some unusual events taking place in the page to page writings.

Excellent! A real thriller!
A page turner, easy, fast read with a contemporary theme.
Toni Gallo, the security director of a Scottish medical researce firm, beleives that no one can break through the elaborate security. When it happens, she knows she has problems, but she has no idea of the nightmare to come
Real page turner.
Follett is one of my favorite authors, and I can always expect a good read. This certainly did not disappoint...
This one is about 12 missisng samples of a deadly virus and the search for them. All in the midst of a Christmas Even blizzard. You will like it.
Biological terrorism and an isolated house on a stormy night makes for an exciting read.
Twelve stolen virus, a lab technician bleeding for the eyes. Filled with jealousies, distrust, sexual attraction and rivalies, . Charged with startling twists at every turn, desperate secrets revealed, hidden traitors and unexpected heros emerge. Good reading!
Fast paced, good characters. Liked his cliffhanger writing style.
Found this book to be good reading, and the subject of germ research disturbing.
"Follett sets his sights on biological terrorism, pumping old-school adrenaline into this new breed of thriller" (Publishers Weekly) [D]
I have always been fond of Follett's books, this is a good mystery, and the action keeps you turning the pages!

You may want to put your parka on for this chiller/thriller.
A literate, plausible , suspense tale that keeps you up past your bedtime.
I couldn't put it down. I stayed up late just to see how it ended. One of his best.
A good fast read
This is a great book. I enjoyed reading it. I just finished it today.
first time I had read anything by Ken Follett fast read quick moving action not bad will more than likely read more of his books.
A spellbinding page-turner!
Ken Follett is an excellent storyteller and Whiteout is a page-turner that does not disappoint. A missing canister containing a deadly virus and a deadly snow storm make up the plot of this bio-terrorism novel. It is a riveting thriller full of romance, family relationships and company security. The characters are well-fleshed and believable. I found Follett's writing to be suspenseful and entertaining. I look forward to reading more Follett in the near future. I highly recommend this book to those who love suspense thrillers.
Exciting, tension filled thriller. This story line is fast paced and has everything that makes a great thriller. The reader is from London so her accent is perfect for the characters, this story is based out of Scotland.
Enjoyed the characters, they were well developed and interesting. Great book.
Enjoyed the characters, they were well developed and interesting. Great book.
A great mystery/thriller in true Ken Follett style!
I chose this story because I fell in love with Josephine Bailey as a narrator. I realized later I adored this CD story for 3 reasons 1) the narrator 2) Ken Fillet 3) Outbreak fiction.
As always Ken Follet doesn't disappoint its a great thriller with danger, mayhem, romance, a virus outbreak and mobsters. All in a HUGE old manor home in Rural Scotland. How can you go wrong? Plus a strong female lead? Its a great story.

I felt this book is pretty much a rehash of the typical home-invasion-by-criminals. It plods along with a cast of characters who are uninspired and one dimensional.
There isn't much original thinking or writing and this plot has been done to death.
Sometimes it is hard for me to relate to British literature. That said, I still give it three stars because it's not a bad book, just not inspired.

Well written crime adventure story.
This may be one of Ken Folletts most exciting novels yet! A lab tech dies from an extremely dangerous virus. Shortly thereafter, thieves steal the same virus from its high security lab. Enter a freak snow storm with zero visibility, greatly reducing the distance the thieves are able to run from the crime scene. When a family stands against the thieves, the most unlikely weapons turn up and a Ferrari with a teen behind the wheel begins to even the score.

Stanley Oxenford, the research company's director, has everything riding on the drug he is developing to fight thevirus-but he isn't the only one: His grown children, who have come to spend Christmas have their eyes on the money it will bring.
Terrific Book! Keeps you reading from the moment you pick it up til you've read the very last page.
A waste of time. Another NYTimes Best Seller. Book for people that read books with no value. Bad writing, stupid story, just a time filler.
Demented son robs his fathers hi tech lab for $$.
Demented son robs his fathers hi tech lab for $$.
A five star read if ever there was one! I give this a standing ovation.
This is the first book Ive read by this author and I am now a big fan. Written beautifully and so well, the author keeps you on the edge of your seat turning pages as fast as you can. This is one of those books you really get into and when you wake up the next morning you just have to start reading again, your so excited to find what is going to happen next.
A massive blizzard, a deadly virus with no cure, more potent than the Black Death, a family stranded with a bunch of thieves who have stolen this virus, let's just say, I highly recommend this one!

Fast-paced thriller involving security at a drug company and an inside job attempt to steal a virus more deadly than Ebola. Oh, yeah, during a blizzard.
A scary page turner -- fast paced, almost frantic. If you like Ken Follet, you will love this one.
New author to me..good book!
