Perhaps the collective consciousness of Homo Sapiens might be able to take one tiny step forward if only "we" could come to terms with the FACT that the Bible, in its entirety, is: a form of Talmudic teaching (parables), sometimes framed around historical events, and heavily peppered with the mythological beliefs of societies which preceded its authorship. How about it: learn about the strong influence of the redactor, set aside your superstitious belief systems (heavily and historically influenced by political agenda) and look for "GOD".

Friedman makes a nice summary of some old testament biblical criticism and origins that we didn't learn in Sunday school. Friedman takes on a topic that could be very dry and esoteric and writes it (quite well) as a little detective novel. I enjoyed it and may read more on the topic. Well done.

I really enjoyed this book. The author theorizes (through biblical and archeological evidence) that the first five books of the Old Testament were written by as many as 4 different people. He even names the person whom he feels is the "true author" of the bible as we read it today. The person that put all 4 books together to make 1. His theories are very sound and believable. They make you think.
