looking for books on this topic. prefer something not too scholarly, i.e. not too many footnotes.

not necessarily looking for books but book titles would be appreciated if you can recommend one or two you have read.

I really like "All Scripture is Inspired of God and Beneficial" published by The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. For each bible book there is a brief introduction that covers the author, when written; than a brief overview of the contents and why the book is beneficial.
