This well-written book appeals both to readers of historical mysteries and of Regency romances. I purchased and enjoyed it as a mystery addict, then loaned it to a friend who gobbles Regency romances, and she loved it as well. Well-drawn characters, fast pace, and excellent atmosphere of the era in history. The mystery itself is a bit of a puzzler: always fun.

This is another page turning entry in the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series. It's a more graphic read with details of what can happen on a becalmed ship when food and water have run out and no rescue is in sight. Revenge killings begin back in London and St. Cyr has to unravel who could possibly know what happened. There are also further developments in his familial and romantic life, but much less discussion of the political scene.

C.S. Harris is such a good story weaver. The story line captures you immediately. Definitely recommend to start at the first book as they all intertwine.

This entry in the Sebastien St. Cyr series is the best so far, which the most thoughtful mystery and character development to date. Thoroughly gripping, absorbing, and enjoyable.

The adventures of St. Cyr are one of my favorite series. I truely enjoy British police procedurals such as Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes, Peter James and Reginald Hill give us, but St. Cyr has captured my interest. This young man is so charming that his human weaknesses contribute to that charm. I have read only three of this series but have on hand even the latest 2012 book.As usual I dread catching up with the author and having to wait for next year. Thank you,C. S. Harris.

Easy read, interesting twists and turns keep you guessing which way this mystery will go. Lovable charaters, ones that you root and grieve for.

This is the third book in the Sebastian St. Cyr series. C.S. Harris is an excellent writer and had me hooked from beginning to end. The series is very atmospheric of the dark underside of Regency London. The plot is flawlessly constructed with lots of twists and turns. The characters are all well-drawn. The good ones you will love and the bad ones you will learn to hate. I am looking forward to the next book and I highly recommend this series to those who like historical fiction, romance and mystery. If you decide to read this series you should read it in order and start with the first book, What Angels Fear.

Amazing story with so many things happening that you are never bored and there are no slow parts. You gain more inside and backstory into the main characters as they continue to develop. The plot is clever and suspenseful, great descriptions and interesting dialogue. What a great series.

Why Mermaids Sing is the third book in the Sebastian St. Cyr historical mystery series. The book opens with the murder of a young man from a prominent family. The murder scene is eerily similar to two other recent murders, but there is no obvious connection between the victims. Once again Detective Henry Lovejoy calls on the Viscount Devlin (Sebastian) to assist him with the investigation. He soon discovers that although the victims don't know each other, their fathers all share a secret so dark that they are unwilling to share even to protect their sons. A secret they will do anything to protect. So far, this has been my favorite mystery in the series. It really explores human nature and the lengths people will go to for survival.
I would recommend reading the series in order. While the mysteries are all separate, the characters and their relationships keep evolving. There are unexpected twists as learn more about Sebastian and Kat's pasts

Very poor addition to the series. Not nearly as good as the two previous.
