I have not read many of Lorraine Heath's novels, but I will be sure to look for them after reading this one.

Michael, The Marquess of Falconridge is desperate for money. But not for the reasons that most novels explore. He is desperate to pay of his creditors, but more importantly to take care of his mother. The story about Michael and his mother is heartbreaking. She is in a Lunatic Asylum. She doesn't know Michael anymore. She has mostly bad days. He thinks he is taking care of her because of duty - he owes her because she is dowager marchioness. Michael believes she has forgotten him. Just like everyone else in his life he has ever cared about. Can he trust his new bride Kate with the knowledge of why he auctioned his title for money? Can he trust Kate with his heart? Does he even know how to trust?
Kate Rose, an American Heiress, is told that she is to mary the Marquess. She has already lost her heart and innocense to another, who left her to marry another woman. She informs her new husband on their wedding night they will not have "relations" until they know each other. He didn't even bother to ask for her hand himself. She has not seen him since early in the season. He didn't even bother to woo her. She can't see herself married and being intimate with anyone but one she loves. And she has already lost him, but what are these feelings she gets when Michael is near? How will Kate feel when she finds out that the Marquess is her husband because her father outbid others in order to make her mother happy with her daughters having titles? Michael makes her feel things her first love never did. Is this the passion her sister is always talking about? Can she find both love and passion?
This book is wonderful. Reading Michael and Kate's story and their interactions are enjoyable. I would recommend this to anyone.

This is the second book in the Rogues & Roses series. It's the best series I've read by this author to date. It's not difficult to fall in love with the hero--despite his shortcomings. Lorraine Heath delivers the romance that we expect from her works. And we may shed a tear or two as the story progresses. However, what I'm most fond of, are the underlying truths it reveals.

"Love isn't found in words..It's found in quiet moments, a look, a sigh, a smile, a gladness...And very often, it's shown with sacrifice."

Loved it as much as the first book "A Duke of Her Own." I'm really surprised that there wasn't a third book to reveal Jenny's story. Or am I mistaken?

Lorraine Heath is easily one of my favorite authors, and with this book it isn't hard to see why. With the opening chapter the reader is pulled in and the characters and setting become real. There were places in the book where I wanted to choke Kate or hug Micheal only to realize I wasn't in the room with them.

Great story...part of a series...be aware that the final 2 characters in the series have been put on hold....I hate that....
This is a great read on it's own...

From the inside cover: Desperate for riches, penniless Michael Tremayne, Marquess of Falconridge, is willing to auction away his only possession of value - his title - to the highest bidding American father. But Kate Rose was the last woman he had in mind to marry. The willful & headstrong Kate requires from marriage the one thing Michael is unable to give - powerful, unending love. Kate refuses to give in to her husbands sensual demands until he has earned her love. Michael is not one to back down from a challenge, but neither does he believe in playing by the rules. While he is unfamiliar with love, he is extremely intimate with passion. He is determined to convince Kate that one can substitue for the other. And what better way to convince her than by patiently and skillfully seducing her?
