This was not a happy book and since I did not like any of the characters and disliked the storyline, how was it that I couldn't put the book down? I found it intriguing and it certainly held my interest.

Two 11 year old girls met one day and were arrested for allegedly killing a 4 year old. They were sent to different prisons and released on life probation, and were never allowed to see each other again. Twenty five years later, they met by chance and you learn what really happened in alternating chapters of past and present. By this time, the two women grew on me and the ending was a shocker i didn't see coming.

After reading 100 dull pages, I gave up and started another book. The story was slow and the British dialect was just too much. I couldn't figure out what some words meant and phrases were very confusing. Sorry but I would not recommend this book. But, if you are British or understand their wording you may love it.

Unsatisfied... that's the word that comes to mind now that I'm finished with this book. Apparently the justice system failed these people. I won't go into any more than that for the sake of not spoiling the plot, but really?!

The author did a good job of creating suspense and I really enjoyed how the flashbacks unfolded throughout the book. Unfortunately none of the characters were especially likable and I really didn't care what happened to anyone by the end.

Also, I found the british dialect and slang to be cumbersome and struggled with it quite a bit. Glad to be finished and moving on.

This book grabbed me for the first few pages, but it lost my interest soon after. Knowing that Stephen King had recommended it made me scratch my head. I found myself bored very early on and I started skimming a lot of it. I barely made it through 7 chapters before I had to put it down.

Can you really ever start over? That depends on what you did. Interesting characters, fairly well written.
