I am not a ghost story person. I read the first in this series and thought it was ok, this one was better. It had twists and turns and the "ghost" story or mystical component was lesser than the first. IT is a good read, probably even a great read if you love the mystical story!

I liked the idea behind the story, but was unable to get into the book because of all the unnecessary filling in the book. It seemed to go nowhere at times and other times there was too much information. If you like a mystery then this is for you. I had not read the first in the series and was not lost.

Laura Adderley is intent on putting the pieces of her life back together after a recent divorce from her arrogant, unfaithful ex, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Byron Adderley. She loves her job as a floor nurse at Ocean Park Hospital --- even if it causes her to encounter Byron on a regular basis --- and is comfortable and cozy in her modest 1950s house. All is right with the world until she suspects she's pregnant with her ex-husband's baby.

Laura longed for children during her marriage. Ironically, now that the marriage is over, the baby she always wanted is on the radar. Before she can gather her wits and assess her situation, all hell breaks loose. Mental patient and psychotic killer Justice Turnbull has outwitted his treating psychiatrist, Dr. Maurice Zellman, and escaped from the nearby Halo Valley Security Hospital, where he's been incarcerated for the last two years. Justice critically injures Dr. Zellman and an Ocean Park Hospital security guard, Conrad Weiser.

Immediately Laura begins receiving threatening telepathic messages from Justice, her half-brother, detailing his plan to kill her and her unborn baby. His uncanny ability to "smell" Laura's location is intensified by her pregnancy, and his litany of satanic thoughts beat against Laura's mind the moment she lets her guard down.

Laura and her baby aren't the only ones in danger, though. Laura, formerly known as Lorelei, is related to the psychically-gifted women who live in seclusion at Siren Song, a colony on the Oregon coast. The female residents of the lodge are the object of curiosity and speculation due to the way they've retreated from society and because of the powers they possess. She knows in her heart that Justice won't stop his murderous behavior until she and all of her sisters are dead.

Harrison Frost, a local newspaper reporter consumed with demons of his own, is fascinated by the newly-escaped Justice and the women who live at Siren Song. Try as he might to get close to Laura, she's understandably wary. The last thing she needs is her identity revealed on the front page of the local paper. As Justice ups the ante, however, Laura finds that Harrison is the person whose protection and affection she most desires.

As Laura tries to shield herself mentally and physically from the terror that Justice creates, she knows that eventually she's going to have to face this evil specter from her past head-on in order to save herself, her baby, her family and a slew of innocent victims. Until Justice is caught, no one in Discovery Bay, Oregon, is safe.

In this follow-up to WICKED GAME, where Justice Turnbull began his reign of terror, we're afforded a more intimate glimpse into the mind of a killer and the mysterious lives of the women of Siren Song. The mystery continues to unfold, bit by agonizing bit. WICKED LIES provides over 500 pages of twists, turns and terror that keep the reader enthralled. You'll fear for Laura, root for Harrison, despise Justice, and yearn to know what shocking events loom between you and the conclusion of the story.

This was a pretty good paranormal mystery, with more actual clues and detectives chasing down leads than just 'the ghost has magical powers' type of plot twist.
I give it 3 stars. But when I began the book, I wasn't aware that that it was the second in a series. Perhaps if I'd read the first book I'd have given it more stars.

From back cover: IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, KILL, THEN KILL AGAIN...
For two years, Justice Turnbull has paced his room at Halo Valley Security Hospital, planning to escape. Justice has a mission--one that began with a vicious murder two decades ago. And there are so many others who must be sent back to the hell that spawned them...
Laura Adderly didn't plan to get pregnant by her soon-to-be-ex husband, though she'll do anything to protect her baby. But now reporter Harrison Frost is asking questions about the mysterious group of women who live at Siren Song lodge. Harrison hasn't figured out Laura's connection to the story yet. But Justice knows. And he is coming...
All her life, Laura has been able to sense approaching evil. But that won't stop a psychopath bent on destroying her. Justice has been unleashed, and this time there will be no place safe to hide.

So nice to finally have weirdo Justice Turnball defeated and learn more about the Colony but the very end was really creepy.

Too long and very repetitive. Added unnecessary characters toward the end. Ok plot but just drug it out. 2 out of 10
