Definitely not your typical romance storyline. They have been married for 10 years but living apart for 9. Neither is made out to be a great lover. He was unfaithful during those years. And their fist intimacy in the book is definitely a "wham, bam, thank you, ma'am" encounter - actually there was no thank you involved. But having said all that, I think this was my favorite in the series.

I couldn't get into this book. The hero (?) Rees is a total degenerate, mannerless and reprehensible. What an ass! His wife Helena obviously has the patience of a saint to put up with his crap for 10 years. Rees kicked her out and moved a slut into her house and her bed. Ten years later Helena wants a divorce and he refuses to give it to her since they have a perfect relationship. Huh??? Anyway, I gave up after only 30 pages or so. Just couldn't stand this idiot and wasn't wasting any more time on this jerk.

While the characters are well fleshed out, Rees and Helene (especially her shrewish behavior in the beginning) aren't particularly likable characters. What really drives this story are the supporting characters and their stories. The Lina/Tom story was off-putting; this was not my favorite story in the series, and I'm glad I've already read Mayne's story or else I'd feel like I wasted an evening reading this.
