Great story with a huge surprise twist that I had NO idea was coming! And I'm pretty good at anticipating what might happen. This caught me off guard and will forever remain a favorite just for that. LOL!
Starts out kind of slow but jumps up fast.

I'm not always a Camp fan, but this one was really good--well written with a fun preminse, spunky heroine and bedeviled hero who doesn't know quite what hit him until he is well and truely in love with the wife he married as a purely business proposition and with one arm firmly twisted behind his back by his mother. A delightful read.

The Earl of Ravenscar is a devil-may-care malcontent happy to live as he is. But, he must save the family name and so meets Miranda, a headstrong American visiting England with her father. She reads him the "riot act" and restores his home, name and fortunes and he gets his act together. Enjoyable.

I love this book! The heroine is totally engaging, quick and determined. I also grew to love other characters in the text so I read the entire series! A blast!

Loved it. Great romance with a lot of mystery thrown in. Very well written as always with Camp.

Eh. I had problems with this book. I did not care for the twist at the end, I just thought it was creepy. I didn't much like the "hero" either, who is having sex with two women at the start of the book, is rude, selfish, and fairly unkind except to his sister, and he's is drunk at almost every encounter he has with the heroine. Candace Camp TELLS us how charming and attractive this guy is supposed to be, but does little to demonstrate it. Miranda falls instantly in love/lust with the guy and makes it her mission to reform him. I dunno, none of this worked for me.

What did work is I got quite interested in the other characters, Richard the widower brother in law, and Rachel and Michael. So I might read another by this author, just to see if it was simply a case of me not liking this particular story.

For whatever it is worth, the back cover has some of the information wrong. For example the estate is called Darkwater, not Blackwater, and she's not restoring the abbey, she's working on the manor house. Small stuff but just shows lack of editorial oversight.

Oh and sidebar, Camp is also another of those authors who writes a love scene where the couple always orgasms simultaneously, and the woman has an orgasm just because her man does. Sometimes I wonder if these books are written by men. Really???

Devin Aincourt, Earl of Ravenscar, makes no apolgies for who he is- a drinker, a womanizer, a gambler. Having been cast aside by his disapproving father years before, dev is content to live out his cursed life in this hedonistic manner. Untill his mother asks him to make a bold move to restore the family name and fortune: mary a rich american heiress. Believing it will be a marriage in name only, dev agrees to marry miranda. But he never imagined that this fiesty, unconventional forgeigner would have plans for her own: to restore blackwater, the old abbey, to its former glory, to exticiate Dev from the clutches of a devious mistress and to win his heart for her own. all while risking her own life to an unknown enemy. For dev and miranda, love may be the most lasting curse of all
