I am not sure who recommended this author, but I am glad they did. I really like Ms. Neville's writing style. I was immediately drawn into the story and the characters. This is the first book of the series which is based on Bibliophiles and their acquiring books, books, and more books. If you are not interested in the world of books and book collectors, you might be put off by the 'book buying/selling' details. I usually find an author that wants to educate me while telling me a story off-putting. However, since I love books, it did not get in the way of the story.

I would have loved this book just for the story of Juliana and Cain. She is a bookseller, and has to earn her own living. He was such a lovely beta hero, so supportive and sensitive to women and their feelings. Superficially, he seemed like a rake, but he's actually a man who sincerely loves the company of women and respects their intelligence. What made him beta to my mind, was that when she panicked over their relationship going too far, too fast, he did not pressure her but backed off and let her make the next move. The subplot about his little sister also highlighted his sensitivity.
But in addition to their story, the details about collectible books, the Sotheby book auctions, and the mystery of Juliana's background made this a 5 star read for me. The connection to Juliana's beloved editions of Shakespeare, and the way the mystery was eventually solved via deciphering coded messages was quite cleverly plotted. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the Burgundy Club books.
