This is a collection of short stories, drawn from magazine articles, I believe, from a man who has to be, hands down, the best scientific writer ever. I'm convinced he could write about anything, the most mundane and tedious topic in science, and make it humorous and entertaining. This collection will be skewed to nature writing and to the best of my memory (it's been awhile) mostly with the uniting theme of the interaction/tension between the natural world and human society. Excellent. I don't know anyone who hasn't read on who didn't want to run out and get ALL of his others as well (of course, I hang out with A LOT of science nerds...so, you know, grain of salt).
Good naturalist writings. He likes the cold and ice.
Various stories about people and places with reguard to wilderness areas.
