Annie Lyncroft's brother, Daniel, is missing. Everyone except Annie and her brother's fiance think that he died in a plane crash. With Daniel's disappearance control of their company, Lyncroft Unlimited, falls to her. Investors start getting nervous because they don't think she can take Daniel's place, but Annie has a plan to keep the company together until her brother gets back.
Annie goes to Daniel's old boss Oliver Rain and proposes a marriage of convenience. He has an investment in Lyncroft Unlimited and if he doesn't want to lose money on it he needs to help run the company until Daniel gets back. Oliver has his own reasons for agreeing to Annie's plan and can't wait to live with her, even if it's only as roommates.
This author is a comfort read to me. I don't enjoy every single book of hers, but I know that I have pretty good odds that I might. Almost all of her books are very similar in character and storyline. There's always the free spirited woman who is still somehow sweet and naive paired with the controlled, calculating man. Most likely he'll have graying hair and compelling eyes and will be somehow removed from his family. She'll be independent and will save him from himself. She'll also most likely be small chested and have reddish hair and green eyes.
Now, you might think that I wouldn't enjoy her books because I already know the characters, but that's just not true. I don't turn to this author when I feel like trying something new but I do turn to her when I want a good story of two people falling in love with some funny banter. She's my comfort read because I know exactly what I'll expect.
This isn't my favorite book by the author, but it was still a solid read. Annie is sweet and charming and although she can be irritatingly naive and optimistic you still can't help but like her. Oliver took a while to come out of his shell, but he was just as likable. I liked that even though he didn't get his dream job he was still able to carve a piece of his life out for his hobby. I also really liked that Annie wasn't willing to accept that she couldn't fix a problem in the bedroom. Oliver's reaction was funny.
