The story of Merry, an American Revolutionary Patriot reluctantly packed off to England by an Anglophile aunt, and her adventures aboard a rather genteel privateer, is funny, charming and exciting. The pirate ship is crewed by various aristocratic bad-boy scions; one of them, Cat, is one of my all-time favorite fictional characters. Merry makes friends, gets sick, and does her best to avoid the attentions of Devon Crandall, second-in-command to the feared Reed Morgan who is not quite the black-hearted devil he appears.
By the time they arrive in England, Merry is still a virgin, but has had her worldly education considerably expanded by her fellow sailors. All eventually ends happily, although not in the least predictably, and, unusually in these books, the adventure continues after Merry's marriage to Devon.
The writing of the team calling themselves "Laura London" is so much better than the usual romanctic writer that it is a shame they never put their pens to weightier works. All in all, "The Windflower" is light-weight enough to blow off in a breeze, yet it's humor and wonderful characterisations will stay with you long after you close the book. I guarantee, this is a novel you will want to own!

This was written by Tom and Sharon Curtis also known as Laura London. A classic love story and pirate story. I loved it. This has made many top romance lists. A classic and a keeper.
LOVED it! The best pirate story ever, imho. Lots of action, romance - an adventure. Don't let the cover fool you - this is more than a bodice ripper.

I picked this romance book up in 1990, and I'm so glad I did! I read it every so offen to revisit their world. This is one of the best books I've read and I always have my nose in a book! I love the hero/heroine, and Cat is another of my favorites, and I wish the authors would have told his story, for there is one--it's just waiting to be told! This is a 'keeper' and very hard to find, it's so good!
My feelings for this book can be summed up in one word: MEH.
I couldn't manage to finish it. The characters were pretty boring, save the utterly delightful Cat. Alas, he was not enough to save the book from my did not finish pile. Also, I am not a huge fan of the pirate theme, though I have liked some, such as Kresley Cole.
Frankly, I just didn't get the reason for all the rave reviews. Maybe I just read it at the wrong point in my life.

This is a great book and I read it a least 3 times.
This is one of my top three favorite Romance books I've ever read!! My one complaint is that a sequel hasn't been made to continue the story of one of the characters.
This is an amazing book and the best I've read in quite awhile. It is so well-written, with secondary characters as fascinating and enjoyable as the h&h. The book had lots of humor, and I laughed out loud at quite a few parts. I was very sad when the book ended because I almost feel like I can't live without these characters and their stories in my life. I really liked how the love scenes were written without overkill and involved lots of subtle foreplay. I must admit that my favorite characters were two of the secondary characters who were close to the heroine, and I would give anything if the authors (Laura London is actually a husband-wife writing team) would write books about them! Again, I really appreciated the way this book was written and that it did not fall in quite the same formulaic rut I've encountered lately and become kind of burned out on (after years of reading romance novels, that's bound to happen). I highly recommend it, unless you hate pirates and ships and tangled webs of relationships and humor...
