Don't expect GONE WITH THE WIND. Don't even expect a well written book. From the first chapter, I felt like I was participating in some unholy act just reading this dreadful book.
Scarlett returns to Tara after Rhett abandons her and Melanie has died. She tries to make up with her sister, Sueellen. Magically, Will Benteen, who had lost his leg in the war in GWTW, only has a "game" leg here, and he's also converted into a man whose father once had a prosperous plantation, instead of being a poor farmer. Then, Jonas Wilkerson (the former overseer, who gets killed in GWTW) reappears, with his trashy wife, claiming a part ownership in Tara. Scarlett has to deal with that. Then her sister Careen (a nun in GWTW, but in & out of the convent here at her whim) has an affair with a Yankee soldier and falls pregnant. (Her heartbreak over the death of Brent Tarleton is never mentioned.) Scarlett has to deal with that. Jonas Wilkerson keeps causing trouble at Tara. Scarlett has to figure out how to conceal her sister's pregnancy. Rhett pops in and out to accuse her of still loving Ashley (who never appears).
Awful, awful story, clumsily written by an author with minimal talent, and a complete abomination of every good thing that was in GONE WITH THE WIND. I respectfully urge any reader of GWTW who cares about the characters and/or what might have happened to them after the close of GWTW, to stick to your own daydreams. They will be far more satisfying than anything dreamed up by Ms. Pinotti. Zero "stars"!!!
