While reading this book I suddenly realized that I was about two-thirds through it and there was still no sign of a murder, let alone a crime. So far, all it had dealt with was Elizabeth MacPherson's wedding. So kudos to the author who wrote entertainingly enough to keep me interested, all the while setting up the plot in which a murder does occur late in the book. But while Elizabeth helps, her main concern is her wedding and attending a tea with Britain's Queen Elizabeth; it is her brother Geoffrey who solves the crime.
American Elizabeth McPherson, doctoral student in forensic anthropology, is getting married anyway so why not plan a large formal wedding in just 5 weeks? If she isn't married to Scottish fiance by then, he gets to go to Queen Elizabeth's Garden Party and she doesn't. But five weeks isn't long and it doesn't help when a local widow receives the ashes of her husband--who died 3 years ago.

Goofy fun, an Elizabeth MacPherson (lots of Scottish stuff) mystery.
very funny. I especially loved the mysterious traveling gnome.
Elizabeth MacPherson's Scottish fiance calls from across the seas with a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to tea with Her Majesty the Queen. There's a hitch, of course--no friends or fiances allowed, only spouses. Royalty enthusiast that she is, Elizabeth solves the dilemma by planning a large formal wedding in 5 weeks. In between her fittings and flowers, a local widow receives word that her dear husband has died on a highway in California. Odd, as the errant husband died 5 years before!..........

Racing to complete her doctoral research, Elizabeth MacPherson is completely booked for the summer - until her Scottish fiance calls from across the seas with a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to tea with Her Majesty The Queen. There's a hitch, of course - no friends or fiances allowed, only spouses. Royalty enthusiast that she is, Elizabeth solves the dilemma by planning a large formal wedding in five weeks. In between Elizabeth's fitting and flowers, local widow Clarine Mason receives word that her dear husband, Emmet, has died on a highway in San Diego. Odd, thinks Mrs. Mason, as the errant Emmet died five years before, and she's got the urn of ashes to prove it.
Just whose ashes those are is what Elizabeth must discover, if tartan bridesmaids' dresses, scones with tea, and all the accoutrements necessary for the joining of two noble clams don't bury her first!
