This, the second in the Daisy Dalrymple series, is just as good as the first -- maybe better. What really impresses me is the author's ability to take the reader to the 1920s without spending a lot of time on historical detail. The characters are so believable, and through their dress, actions, vocabulary, etc. they give the reader a better idea of what it was like in the 20s than anything else could. The other factor to recommend the series is the intelligent relationships. Instead of jumping into a romance between Daisy and Alec, gives a realistic picture of the obstacles and reactions of other people. And, when she could have painted Phil as a charicature, she gave him depth as well. In short, it's a thoroughly enjoyable read.

The second in the charming "Daisy Dairymple" series...in this addition the very modern Daisy finds herself at the home of a school chum. When the body of missing parlor maid Grace Moss is discovered buried in the garden, the local police quickly arrest the dead girl's heartbroken boyfriend. Daisy is sure the police have arrested the wrong man, simply to avoid the wrath of Lady Valeria,, wife of The Lord of the manor....Daisy calls upon her friend, Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard to intervene and right the wrong .....What is comes to light during the investigation causes suspicion to fall in several quarters.....I was able to figure out who dun it, but that did not take away from the enjoyment of the book......looking forward to the next book in the series......

Daisy is as spunky as she was in book one, and yet the characters do remain believable and true to their times. Of course, I am partial to bright women who do not play dumb in front of men...

Once more, there are enough unlikeable characters that it is hard to decide who the true villain really is. And, again, Daisy comes up with a somewhat unorthodox way of making unhappy characters happy.

This has definitely become a keeper series for me--actually, I am glad I took so long to start them, because now I can collect them and read them in bunches LOL!
