I love talking animal books! This one starts out so cute and the talking animals are so charming. (Well, at least the rabbit and the frog are. The fox: not so much.) Things are not what they seem, and events take a dark turn. Imagine a Wind in the Willows-type vibe, only the inhabitants are trying to kill you.
This is a well-written, unique and immersive horror story.

This is quite unique as horror books go. I was intrigued after seeing this author's posts frequently on Facebook. If you are on FB look him up. His quips are entertaining, humorous and clever and often make my day! I am certainly glad I found him and his book. For me this tale is like the hundred acre wood meets the old Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man". Or maybe finding the author of your favorite childhood book was actually psycho. It's delightful and intense, brutal and cruel but with some heart. Quite difficult to categorize. I enjoyed so much about it. I will look forward to reading more from Mr. Durham.
I bought this book a while back and forgot what it was about. Kept thinking when I saw it that it would be a cute animal talking story. Even though I love stories like that, this was not why I got this book. I got it for the horror and boy, it does not disappoint.
We start off with a group of friends that are on a trip. From there we get to a place that feels like The Hundred Acre Wood. You get that same vibe as if you, yourself, was there visiting Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, and all the rest. Then all your worst dreams come true and you are no longer in the Hundred Acre Wood but now you are in the horror movie, The Hunt. It is fight for your life with no hope in sight.
Loved the way the book was set up. Takes a bit to settle into but once you do, it gets crazy. The writing is superb and the characters are top notch. Awesome story!
