Homicide detective Ray Duval's girlfriend's mother
used to talk about the wisdom of the bones: "When you're close to dying, you can see the truth." Now, with six months to live, Duval is putting that belief to the test. He's trying to save one last life before he loses his own to a terminal heart condition. Even as the President's assination sends shock waves of panic throughout Dallas, the killer kidnaps another girl. Unless Duval can break the pattern, she'll be dead in forty-eight hours....

A book I received through a swap and it's a pip! Our hero, Detective Ray Duval is dying. He's such a "real" person. Hyde makes Duval someone we all probably have known somewhere, sometime. The story begins in the days leading up to President JFK's assassination. Duval must solve a most heinous murder(s) pushed to the back burner by the media AND the Dallas police department because of the President's impending visit. Duval doesn't have time to waste. He has to solve it...NOW! A superb mix of fiction, history and some not so well known real life events of the time in rural Texas. A great read.

A litle gruesome. Girls getting murdered. One person trying to find the murderer before he himself dies of a heart condition.
