This is his personal memoir of his years of a partisan fighter. In low-key, understated language, he recalls his experiences from 1939 to 1947. He tells of a baby that had been snatched from its mother as she boarded the deportation train. One of the reasons why he risked his life to rescue the infant, he explains, was in order to prove to himself that in the midst of inhumanity and terror, he could still remain a human being.
