Was not sure at the beginning if I would like it. Turns out I loved it! Almost did not post to trade incase I wanted to read again but.......I decided to share. Love the way the writer goes from present to the past so you can understand Bess's journey.

Love it! Excellent book! Stopped a little short, hoping that there is or will be another one out soon.

Nicely surprised by this book, a very enjoyable read. Nice historical references and characters.

I had wanted to read this for awhile and I am pleased to say that it was very well done. The shift between times was easy to follow, kept to the same story and worked very well in keeping the reader moving forward in the story and at the same time back filling in the history of her life. Very well written, excellent detail and keeps to a nice pace.

I found this book to be an enjoyable read. I especially enjoyed the story lines that were set in the past. I never really connected with the "present" action. The present part was supposed to be what was written in Bess' journal, but contained full quotes and and exposition. It's a bit of pet peeve of mine when authors do this - it would have been perfectly fine if not framed as being journal entries, or if journal entries were mixed with traditional prose.

All in all, I would recommend this book, and look forward to picking up the second book in the series at some point.

FANTASTIC! BRAVO! 5 STARS all the way! I was totally entranced from the beautiful descriptions on page one to the superb satisfying ending-which isn't an ending as it picks up in the next book, "The Return of the Witch"
Everything good you could say about a story is all in this one. I stayed up late into the nights to read this. I cant wait to read the next.
