This fantasy series has the main character---a young wizard--- flying from planet to planet aboard a sentient spaceship. his mission is to 'rescue' forgotten planet from the medieval status they have declined into after Earth stopped supporting its colonies. As such, it is somewhat repetitive.

What makes each story different is each planet has a different culture, so the wizard has to use a different method to push the people into a democracy or republic. It's not all that simple as there is a lot of fighting. What makes it more interesting is he convinces the planet 'rulers' there is more profit in free trade than in wars. Needless to say, some of the rulers still aren't interested, so they are either eliminated or pushed aside.

I keep hoping he will visit our own planet.
